    Anybody celebrating Oktoberfest?

Here in Oakland (the Dimond District, founded by German immigrants), right in the middle of my neighborhood's little financial center...it's the fifth annual Oaktoberfest (note the Oak for Oakland, lol)...

A free, family friendly two-day festival Oct. 5 & Oct. 6 in Oakland's Dimond District. Celebrate craft beer with live music on 5 stages, roaming entertainment, and hundreds of vendors. Enjoy 200+ local craft brews from 50+ breweries, a mouthwatering collection of food vendors, plus inspired loca

I missed the very first year, but have been going for the last three years, this will be my fourth...it's not a HUGE event compared to the real Oktoberfest, but about 5000 showed up the first year, and has grown in size each year, projections that's is going to be 15,000 this year (tomorrow)...so it's a decent sized crowd...it's a nice atmosphere, nice folks (people of all backgrounds), never seen a single fight...lots of good micro-brewed German beer, lots of German sausages, and lots of music...I always have a good time with my friends...and I never get too drunk...I'll have about six or seven mugs (for a six hour time period, that's one beer per hour)...and I'm good to go, lol.

I hope some of you fellas have something similar (talking to non-Germans here, lol)...I know you Germans have HUGE GIGANTIC ones...I know...I envy you, lol.

    I'm ready for tomorrow!

I usually go to my local firehouse (they put on a little Oktoberfest festival every year)

They have plenty of German/Polish food ..... oom-pa-pa and polka bands

and plenty of beer (of course)

On top of that, it's only about 500 ft from where I live --- which means I can safely walk home drunk

celebrate all through Sept and October. my family and I belong to a German American club and we put on a 3 day event the 2nd weekend of Sept every year. I manage the beer truck. then in addition, my daughter(8) is in the German dancing club so we go to many other Oktoberfests in other areas for the performances(and beer). tomorrow we will be at the 2n weekend of Hunter Mt.'s Oktoberfest

There are several such things around here with in a couple hour drive. Some include lots of music, some in city street centers and others are farm settings with hay rides and pumpkin gatherings. But no matter what the setting is you can always find good food and good beer. The best is the Swiss Festival in Sugarcreek, because thats the home of swiss cheese
