this thread prompted me to go to you tube to check out some of the songs. The breaks in Metallica's older stuff is like no other band. They really show it on Master of Puppets . . . . lots of good memories listening to that stuff

I didn't care for their "Turn the Page" cover either. Hetfield overdid it with the growling, etc. I know that's his thing, but he's reigned it in before. Seger's original really captures the loneliness of the road. That melancholy mood is lost with all the teeth nashing.

I like their tamer commercial stuff...I'm not into that heavy thudding speed death metal thing...I'm getting too old for that stuff...lol.

Nothing beats their first three albums, and Master of Puppets is my absolute favourite. My favourite song is probably that album's title track, but "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)" is a close second. "Four Horseman" from their debut album would be number three for me.
