Don Felder's guitar solo is also pretty awesome. Even better than his work on "Hotel California," though not as iconic.
Felder is criminally underrated. A lot folks assume some of the Eagles' best guitar work is Walsh, when it's really Felder. I'm not sure exactly what happened between Felder, Henley and Frey, but the Eagles haven't sound the same since they booted him out.

Crappy resolution, but one of the better tracks from Johnny Cash's great Austin City Limits appearance in 1987. He considered it one of his best TV performances, and that's saying something.

You're dead on. Walsh did his best work with the James Gang and as a solo performer, imo, although Life in the Fast Lane is one of my favorties. Felder gave the Eagles a distinctive rock sound and while they had big hits prior to him joining, he really made them a more diverse group and with a rougher edge that really fit Henley's lyrics as he grew as a song writer. Their new guitarist Stewart something or other is good, but his playing doesn't have the richness of Felder's work.

Felder fell out with Henley and Fry over money. When the band formed in the '70s and when new members were added prior to their breakup the money was split evenly as partners. When they reformed Henley and Fry began taking larger and larger chunks of the pie, paying Walsh, Felder and Schmidt really well, but more like employees than partners. Felder also alleged that Henley and Fry screwed around with the publishing rights. Felder originally was listed first on the publishing of the song "Hotel California" because he wrote the music and got a larger chunk, but evidently that got twisted around and Henley and Fry, who co-wrote the lyrics, began getting more. Evidently all this was done by Henley and Fry and the band's manager Irving Azoff without the knowledge of the other band members, according to Felder. Felder started asking questions and pushing for answers and more money, so Henley and Fry fired him. The both parties sewed each other and eventually settled for an undisclosed sum. This all happened following their big New Year's Eve Millenium shows in 2000, which was featured on an Eagles collection. Felder's not worked with them since 01 or 02. It really sucks. I love Henley's lyrics and Fry is talented, too. No doubt, they were the driving forces of the band, but from they outside looking in, they've really treated some of their partners and former bandmates poorly if not vindictively and left the impression they are money-grubbing jerks. Henley and Fry haven't gone on the record about their troubles with Felder, Randy Meisner and Bernie Leadon and there is always two sides to the story.

As a fan, I would like for Henley and/or Fry to write about their view of the band's history, but It seems they had rather seem like jerks than explain their point of view, which I can kind of respect.

Felder was originally a partner, when Leadon left Walsh was hired and no did not want to be partner he was paid the way he wanted to be paid because he wanted to be free to do his solo music. Then when Meisner quit and Schmit was hired Henley and Frey applied the same type of deal that Walsh wanted.
The Eagles broke up in the early 80's and then got together to do Hell freezes over tour in aboud the mid 90's. They redid Felders deal and he accepted.

Thanks for the Eagles info guys. They are my favorite band, but I sometimes think Henley and Frey do come across as money-grubbers...and hypocrites, since many of their songs (especially Henley's solo work) derides the rich.

Probably one of the finest voices in ROCK...Paul Rodgers and Bad Company. I love the way he mixes the Beatles Medley into the song:

"When not too many people can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
                The beauty that surrounds them
                Isn't it a pity".

                - "Isn't It A Pity"
                By George Harrison

Canada has a pretty serious tradition of Rock N' Rollers. And if I had to name the best Canadian hard rock band of all time it would have to be Bachman-Turner Overdrive, but closely followed by this one:
