There will probably be a remake of Episode 4 at some point. Maybe he should have limited involvement. -
At ILM, he will be replaced by a CG image of himself, with full AI capabilities.
Whenever somebody at ILM will want to make a decision, you'll hear his voice: "I can't let you do that, Dave.".

I think creatively he might be disappointed he never did much as a director. That was always his choice, since he built ILM from the ground up.Comment

It's been rumoured for a while that he would soon begin to take a back seat regarding the corporate duties at Lucasfilm and all its subsidiary companies.
Lucasfilm has so many different facets... such as ILM, Skywalker Sound, LucasArts, LucasBooks, Lucasfilm Animation, Lucas Online, Lucas Marketing... not to mention its former subsidiaries like THX and Pixar.
For decades he's been talking about finally getting around to directing some of his personal, small scale movie projects. Maybe now he'll do that.PUNY HUMANS!Comment

Despite the guff with his decisions on the Prequels I have to give the man credit and say "Well done sir!' And considering he has a bottomless check book I'm sure he can do whatever he pleases. Twice.
Oh to have such a charmed life. If we all had taken the chances he did. Bless you George.Comment

It's almost been 40 years since American Grafitti, so I'd say he deserves to go low profile. He was hospitalized during production of Episode IV and is a diabetic. Best wishes to him in his future endeavors and best of luck to his successor. Dave Filoni's doing a great job with Clone Wars and I'm looking forward to what Seth Green & Co. have planned for Star Detours. Wouldn't surprise me if we see a re-imagining of the OT as part of the much talked about live action series.Comment

Seriously.
I said it before, and I'll say it again: I'm very grateful that Lucas gave us Star Wars. It was a life-changing event. But that man, who rebelled against the system in 1977, actually became the system later on.
I watched a "making of" again just recently, in which he said, after screening Phantom Menace for his crew: "I may have gone too far with certain things, but I can't change it now."
That was before the film was released.
Even he knew about his mistakes. He could have made changes. But he didn't.
And that is the moment when a wise leader steps down and lets someone else make the decisions.
We know that Lucas can make great movies, like THX and American Graffiti, and that little space opera movie from 1977.
Let's hope he makes some more of those..

I've always wondered how much different Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark would have been if Steven Spielberg hadnt been involved. Could Lucas have "handled" it?Comment
