So I spent a few minutes looking around on Google news for the source of this story (which leads to a charming tour of various racist websites, ugh....) There's been no official announcement fromWarner Bros about this, the whole thing seems to be traceable to a post on HobbyTalk where some dude claims a rep told him this.

It could be true, but it could also be total internet BS.

There are a lot of salient points being made, but I think we're losing sight of the fact they're just some good old boys, never meaning no harm. I have to give them the benefit of the doubt, because despite displaying a potentially offensive symbol on their automobile, they're making their way the only way they know how.

Oakland is even more liberal than San Francisco...and it's the second most liberal city in the Bay Area (after Berkeley)...and I wouldn't have a problem riding the General Lee here...regular folks don't care...only the PC police does...and I don't mean the Oakland Police Department, lol.

I have owned a replica general lee for 8 years now. I have never had a bad encounter with anyone when i drive it around the city. i get thumbs up from everyone from every walk of life. It represents being a rebel not a biggot. My car is an homage to a tv series that i loved growing up as a kid, not as a statement of hate or discrimination.

I think the Dukes is more popular than most of you realize. Obviously popular enough to still be merchandised. You still see the "01" shirts at Wal-mart, etc.

I guess we shouldn't be surprised. This is another example of corporate overthinking. Disney won't release "Song of the South" on DVD or Blu-Ray for the same reasons. One of the most popular attractions in Disney World (Splash Mountain) is based on those characters, but they won't put the movie out.

If Warner Bros really wanted to keep a low profile they could have just replaced the rebel flag with the American flag and hoped not many people noticed.

Considering how many people buy the General Lee nowadays it would have went off without much fanfare

it's just one of those things that still bothers many....I honestly can careless, in fact when ever I do see it i think of Dukes ..If you happen to catch it down here it's just a redneck or something....but if they catch you with it in the wrong part of town it can get bad

I don't know how it is up North though, I'm guessing Cali,NY and Chicago are probably the same

Not to be outdone by Warners, Lucasfilm has just announced Boba Fetts ship will now be referred to as migrant worker.

All they are really doing with this PC crap is making collector's items out of the car items with the flag a market for flag decals to complete the future ones without the flag.
