Magical Mystery tour getting BluRay release

So they are releasing the movie on bluray October 9th. I have it on DVD and the quality is awful. they supposedly have cleaned it up. it's a tough movie to sit through, even at under an hour. Some say it was ahead of it's time and is artwork....i don't know.....other than the music bits it's really out there.

    Thoughts???

maybe this means Let it Be is not far behind. it's the only one without an official release now.

I've never seen Mystery Tour look better than bootleg quality

I'm guessing the BluRay release will look the same as we're used to already

Was it shot in 8mm ?

It was shot 16mm and printed at 35mm. If a good film source was available, this release should look substantially better than what's been available until this point, here's hoping! I really hope that an official Let It Be release will happen, I'm a big fan of that film, and would be thrilled if it did (however unlikely). And both films have tons of unused footage, so bonus footage would be nice.

I don't think we'll see let it be until Paul and Ringo are gone.

"Let it be" is the one to have. I've got a descent copy of that on VHS and it's about as raw and personal as your going to see. I will certainly get MMT to see how well they cleaned it up. I don't think the film is a piece of art so much as an "artsy" style for it's day. A little pretentious in places and in some cases not very original. A good example is where Paul is holding the green apple. He's trying to act like he's just casually holding it in a scene. But it's obvious he's posing with it and trying to keep it in frame to promote their own label "Apple Records." Not very original, but you can see the intent.

According to the tweet from the The Beatles, the audio has been remastered and different than the recent remastered releases. Not to mention a remixed 5.1 version as well. Plus the bonus footage and if the trailer on Beatles.com is any indication of the video quality of the BR, then what a masterful clean up job.

I've only seen snippets of it as a kid but loved the soundtrack.

As for LIB, Mikey hit the nail on the head, the remaining band members do not want to have this out so until their demise we might see it unless someone talks some business sense into these guys and realize the movie will sell. I'd still rather see a remastered release of the Get Back album, all three versions with original artwork but we won't see that so I'm just content with LIB...naked. Which is one of favorite Beatles album next to Love.

Overall, I would LOVE to see a remix/remaster of The Beatles catalog done by Giles Martin, because what he did on the LOVE tracks really modernized the fidelity of the songs to levels of audio bliss. Love his version of A Day In The Life and Come Together(I can hear John very clear and all the mumbles I never heard before!).

I'd love to see Capitol release the rest of the American albums on official CD including The Beatles Story, A Hard Days Night, Yesterday and Today and Hey Jude

^^ Ditto. Fingers crossed they do remaster those as well since many are different mixes and the UK counterpart.

actually Ringo was on one of the talk shows promoting this summers tour and he said Let it Be still needed to be released and more improtantly said it would be released. I don't think he is the one that has held it up, Paul is. but even Paul can see the benfits of a DVD/Bluray release

I couldn't resist picking it up. i have to say what they have done with it is amazing. the picture and sound are fantastic. still a bizarre movie but much easier to watch with clear picture and cleaned up sound. the extras are interesting as well. footage I had never seen and new interviews with Paul and Ringo

The thing about "Let It Be" is that it was officially released, years ago. They ran it on HBO, had a licensed VHS tape, etc. I cannot understand why it's so taboo (or whatever), now.

If they do release it onto BluRay/DVD, it will sell extremely well. It might make 10 times the amount that this release of "Magical Mystery Tour" will make.

Don't kid yourselves Beatles fans. I would be stunned if Let It Be EVER gets re-released. As longs as Paul is still alive it won't. The reason why is that Paul looks and was very bossy in Let It Be....but that's the way he was. He was always the perfectionist and was always the one that pushed the others to get back in the studio. If anyone wants to know why it's hard to watch this is just a small portion of the crap that was going on:

That clip should be about 30 - 45 seconds longer than it is. Before what you see in the 13 second clip Paul keeps hounding George saying "look man...I'm not trying to get you. It seems lately like like you think I have it in for you." I'm paraphrasing...but that little bit before hand shows the frustration the rest of the Beatles were having with Paul. Also, you have to remember that 3 LP's came out of the initial first Let It Be sessions. The White Album, Let It Be, and Abbey Road...A lot of bands would have loved to have that kind of output from the band LITERALLY falling apart. Let It Be makes Paul look very bad..that's why I don't think it will ever be released.

As for MMT...was never a fan of the movie. Looks like you had to be on some serious stuff to actually be able to make sense of the movie. The soundtrack is great...movie...sucks. I do have it in my collection....on LD and VHS.

One last thing...the re-masters of the Beatles catalogs are not really that good...especially the American re-masters. The American Re-Masters are mixed so loud that it is on the verge of distortion. If you want a great version of the Beatles catalog...find the big blue vinyl/LP box collection that has the UK versions of the LP's. The sound on those is so nice and warm.

BTW, there is a widescreen version of Let It Be making the rounds on the net. I think on Ioffer there are a couple of dealers selling them. Haven't gotten my hands on one yet...but I definitely intend on getting one.

And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
                            The beauty that surrounds them
                            Isn't it a pity".

Everybody always says Lennon was "the smart one" but in reality it was absolutely Paul.

Toward the end Lennon seemed like a jerk and George clearly did not want to be there.

If left up to John the Beatles would be recording fart sounds and I LOVE YOKO songs

After Sgt Pepper my sympathies were always with McCartney

Paul always got the job done
