the Count has gone to infinity

rip Jerry Nelson - master puppeteer

Jerry Nelson (July 10, 1934 - August 23, 2012) was an American puppeteer, best known for his work with The Muppets. Renowned for his wide range of characters and singing abilities, he performed Muppet characters on Sesame Street, The Muppet Show, Fraggle Rock, and various Muppet movies and specials. ..... He received a number of his major characters early in the show's run, including the Sherlock Holmes parody Sherlock Hemlock (1970–1995, 2010), a hapless magician named The Amazing Mumford (1971–2012), and the overly-strong but sensitive Herry Monster (1970–2012). His most famous character is the arithmomaniac vampire Count von Count (1972–2012).

His voice was very recognizable, I believe he was also Grover's comic foil in the restaurant gags.

I picked up a couple of books on markdown at a Chapter's here not too long ago. STREET GANG the complete history by M. Davis and SESAME STREET: A Celebration -40 Years of Life on the Street. I've been too busy to read them yet, but it's sad to think that one of the people who've helped shape my childhood is gone before I've even learned of who they were.

Awwww! That's so sad. The Count is one of my favorite characters on SS! I even have Count sneakers! (New Balance). And one of my kids favorite books is the Case Of The Missing Rubber Duckie, and I do Sherlock Hemlock's voice, (and I always do the Count!) RIP Jerry. Thanks for being part of my childhood!

^Me too. How cool was he? He was a vampire!

It's kind of a shame that these people aren't more well-known for their work. With the amount of lives this man touched, everyone should know who he is, like Jim Henson.
