That's sad and unfortunate.
But if he had the need to go...the best option for him was to take himself and his immediate family to the state of Washington or Oregon...the only two states in the union with legal assistance suicide. It would've been a lot less shocking for his family...and he would've gone into a permanent and peaceful sleep...no violent ending.
My sister and I have been discussing this when we get really old...or terminally ill...we witnessed how horribly our dad suffered and died...we don't want that...we rather move Northwest when that time comes.sigpicComment

Boy, I hope he at least talked to his family about not wanting to suffer through the cancer. My wife's mom has advanced Alzheimer's and it's not a life, so I can understand this to a degree. My wife has said there's no way she would have wanted to be living the way she is now.Comment

ABC's reporting has been pretty shoddy, lately. I'm still curious as to why he did it, though. Maybe we'll never know.
The reporting has been junk and full of speculation right from the start. Some of the first articles I saw tried playing up an angle that made it seem like Tony Scott was living in Ridley Scott's shadow and didn't have his brother's critical success. It seemed so meritless and shameless.
I think it's natural to be curious - I know I'm curious - but the truth is it might not ever make total sense.Comment

I totally agree, and I regret even posting about that rumor now.

I hope I didn't seem brusque with the way I posted that link, bro. I'm every bit as curious about Tony's death as you are and you hit the nail on the head when you said it might never make sense. It just annoys me when the news media starts reporting what is essentially "guesstimates." That's not what they're getting paid for reporting, but facts. I can make up my own theories and be equally inaccurate for free. Having said that, I'm almost ashamed to want to know why, because what could be more personal than that?Comment

I don't presume to know the answer but I suspect that he was battling a severe and probably untreated mental disorder like severe depression. If I am correct; it truly is sad. Unfortunately, I have a loved one who suffers from a disorder and refuses to get treatment. I enrolled in an intensive 12 week class to learn about the subject, some of the signs, and behaviors. It is an area where very few people are educated on the subject (I admit I wasn't really to any great extent until taking the class). Depression and other mental illness are organic brain disorders. The bright side is that billions of dollars annually are poured into research with some really effective medications on the market. Unfortunately, most people (this is a fact not an opinion) suffering from mental disorders refuse to get help. The reasons vary from stigmas, not wanting to be viewed as a defective human being, etc. Again, I'm not saying this is the case here, but a suicide of this nature is consistent with untreated mental illness."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."
