    Collecting VS. Hoarding

My question is, at what point does collecting become hoarding. Is there a thin line between the two? I collect a few things my self and I have found myself sometime buying things, then saying ..damn why did I spend my money on that. What are your thoughts?

my wife calls me a hoarder all the time

but that's just cause I store stuff away for a rainy day

but there's a difference between a hoarder and a collector

Me, I'm a window shopper just happy seeing stuff I like. But yeah after seeing these Hoarder shows on TV, I would say there is a huge difference between them. A collector maybe more focused on what they are buying.

        Ask yourself this ...

Can you walk freely threw your house ?
How many Muliples do you really have or need ?
Do you have to climb over stuff ...to get to stuff ?
Are there any Dead Animals underneath your collection ?
Whats your house smell like ?
        Any Plumbing Problems ?

Never ask a Non-collector if you are a Hoarder.

I feel like a good collection should be able to be displayed, regardless of value. Having a designated room isn't a issue, but when your entire house turns into a museum, (look on youtube you will see tons of comic book, toy collectors were the house is nothing but comics and toys) then its gone too far. I have started collecting comic books again ( damn near my entire collection was stolen from my house several years back....took a huge lost),but instead of my trying to just grab every and anything, I am only now interested in very high grade silver age books (mostly). As for my mego collection, I don't stress wether or not they are repro parts or not, I just want them to look good on display and be as complete as possible.

hoarding is a sickness...people who can't throw away garbage, like food wrappers, empty cans crap like that...Not toys or comics hanging neatly and displayed all over a house

I display everything, I forgot what I was watching but there was something on youtube where they went through a guy's collection which was just boxes in a storage unit. I could never be that guy.

Maybe hoarding was wayyyyyyy too strong a term for me to use, because I have seen some collections that were out of control, but couldn't be considered hoarding. With that in mind I have some things I need to donate to good will lol

I mean once you start storing things in rental storage units ect....you have gone too far....UNLESS you sell on a consistant basis at trade shows ect, and make decent money off of it. Right now I am in the process of trying to figure out the best way to display my more expensive comics, no need for them to be in a box.

I used to go to the toy shows 3 times a year, and now I limit myself to 1, the big one, in December. I really don't want my toy room to look junky. And I will be selling a few things, (probably in the Mego Marketplace) before the holidays. I'm no hoarder.

I've been considering downsizing my collection. I am fortunate to have a toy room, but I have a hard time deciding what to display and what to store (or possibly just get rif of). Wish I could focus my collecting a bit more. I'd like to get it down to just vintage toys, but something new always comes out and ruins that idea. Like the new Bionic Bigfoot from BBP. How could I not display that?

When a collection is now in tons and tons of storage bins and you have no clue what's in them you are a hoarder. especially if you have toys that no one has any interest in, you bought it just to buy it.....

A vintage toy store with tons of toys everywhere is fun...someone's house with junk toys everywhere is a mess.......

A toy collection is usually one room big or small with your collection in it proudly displayed.....when you start throwing everything in storage bins and putting them away and never look at them you're a hoarder and it's time to have a garage sale and recoup some money back......

I keep an inventory of what I hoard. Does that count?
