You guys think there's a market for VHS & VCR's in the near future?

I was looking on ebay and I saw a bunch of VCR's with DVD combo's selling for up to $300!! and some rare VHS still selling good...I know people moved on to DVD and blu rays...but do you think there's a chance for a comeback sort of like Music records? They have a huge collector following

I'm asking cause I'm bored and been wanting to start a little website business. not to get rich obviously but something fun and that could potentially make some cash

the huge thrift shop I go to gives me the
    VCR's $4-$6
    VCR/DVD combo's -$5-$10
    and VHS movies 6 for a $1

so with about $400 i can have stock of about 1200 movies and 20+ Vcr's

am I just dreaming here or is it worth considering? and advice is welcomed

Depends on the level of nostalgia.

I used to love buying music and video cassettes, until DVD's and CD's came along, and then I switched to an iPod for my music.

VHS tapes were great, but they wore out quickly depending upon how many times you viewed them. And VCR's kind of wore down too after a time.

I think John Q. Public still uses VHS to record stuff off the TV.

DVD makers still haven't made a popular easy to use very cheap stand-alone throw-away DVD recorder

She hated when I use to sell DVD porn online before I joined the museum

I think the market will exist for quite awhile. I currently collect Horror,Sci-Fi and other Big Box VHS tapes. It's getting harder to find "in the wild" but the ones on ebay and other places still sell well.

As far as opening a online shop, that could work if you have the right stock. If you have nothing but early 90's comedy, action etc. (which all my local Goodwill's have) then you really wont profit.

I agree, these people usually have massive stock piles of everything...I mean at $0.17 each even if I sell them for $1-$2 for common ones and say $15-$20 for the Vcr's , there's still a little room in there..

I'd even open my own vhs forum

At flea markets around here VHS tapes are still pretty popoular. You see lots of people selling them. I think the better the box the better the price, people are buying for the picture more so than the movie. But then again not everything that was on tape is available on disk, so there is that also. Good luck if you decide to try it.

I collect VHS tapes. Some 80's movies just seem better to watch that way.

i don't think there is a mrket. the picture quality and sound are awful. unless it is something that is not available on disc or has some rare tidbit to it, i don't think there is any value to the tapes. i have been slowly replacing mine on disc and just throwing the tapes in the garbage. i tried selling at tag sales and could not give them away
