Sad to see how so many toys meet their doom

There's a huge thrift shop shopping center in Miami that I've been going to since I was a little kid...I decided to go today and take my mom...they have a whole wall filled with toys, and it's usually new stuff coming in every hour..when something doesn't sell in a couple of days it goes to 50%off after a week they toss it in a huge bin for $.95

so i'm going thru the $.95 bin and I see a ton of good stuff but that I don't need, bags and bags of beanies, Huge teddy bears(and expensive ones with $30 tags on them) Board games, stuff like that...I see a girl removing the bin after she asks me if I'm done..I say yeah i'm done thinking she was going to add to it..Instead she starts to take it away, so i ask..where are you taking these? she says, to be destroyed...I said what!?! destroyed? why don't you guys do something more useful like donate them.. she says, sorry not my call..I'm like hold on a sec. , she says sorry I can't so i pulled a few bags..i was able to rescue a plush Jar Jar binks, 2 bags of 5 or 6 Beanies with tags, and 1 large Derek Jeter Beanie...i felt so bad knowing those toys were going to be destroyed, what a waste!! with so many kids out there with nothing, these were a bunch of well cared toys and new with tags, easily 200 bags of toys...I could've rescued some more

That's ridiculous. There's probably some bureaucratic BS that makes them have to do this, instead of donating them (again).

It's weird they don't get stuff for free... They buy huge lots of trailers with stuff people donated up North, One of the workers told me that they go around collecting stuff folks donate then bring it down here and sell them to the thrift shop owners..I know it's true cause I attended one of the auctions last year with a buddy of mine from another shop...

Weird. Sounds more like a "vintage" store than a thrift store. You know, the one's that clean out the thrift stores of all the "cool" stuff and then quadruple the price. Where hipsters shop.

That's what I was thinking ...but I'm guessing since what they're doing by buying those trailers might not be legal could be the reason why...I'm guessing if you have a ton of right offs the IRS might start asking questions

That is pathetic with their being so many kids out there that the stuff could go to.

That makes me mad. There are so many deserving kids who don't get any toys for birthdays and Christmas. That's just plain WRONG!

I have a similar feeling about the Goodwill 'outlet' shop thing that is nearby. They load up giant tubs full of stuff and roll them out. The shoppers all line up for the new carts to come out and then at some determined time, they all start grabbing and stuffing things in bags and carts. After the frenzy dies down, people sort through whatever they grabbed and toss a lot of it back, most times not anywhere near where they picked it up. Any toys that have small parts or board games are usually scattered throughout the bins. Then, after this mess has sat for a couple of hours, the workers roll the carts out and dispose of the detritus. It is pretty crazy the amount of waste they generate - which is a reflection on what the community in general is throwing out.
