    Man.
I had a gold '94 Grand Marquis for a long time. I thought it was a Super Grandpa Landboat, but apparently it was also a really popular make among a certain Po-Po profile set.
I got stopped and tailed a lot. 4 times in one week. Getting pulled over for nothing is one thing, but the third time in as many days? And the officer came up to the window and looked at me shocked, like... I didn't look like the guy they thought I'd look like driving it. You know? Just looked at my license and reg and apologized, waving me on.

I had an entire drug vice squad team pull me over after I left a park once (what was I thinking? I pulled in to get off the road so I could confirm directions somewhere on my cell phone. Should have used a McDonald's instead)
As soon as I pulled back into traffic I had two VICE vans and a squad car pulling me over in an adjoining lot. While they were running my stuff and I got the "wait here, sir." treatment, I'm sitting in the car and all these other units keep coming by. They stop, a guy gets out, comes over and taps on the passenger window to make me look over - then bends down and stares at me, waves and walks off. Twice this happens, while other cops are just coming up and looking in and I'm like, "the hell?"

Finally through the open window I hear the last guy who knocked back at the cars with everyone else and he says, "Yeah, yeah, yeah... you're right... Man, what's his name? The quiet dude from that movie. Which one? Clerks! Yeah - clerks... but like thinner. Totally!"
Then a "thank you sir, you're free to go..."

I have some family in law and drug enforcement and still I mistrust most police *(maybe because of the stories I get?) but also because about 18/20 years ago a friend of mine chased after a homeless guy who'd broken into his car, and he stopped him and got the stuff back in the middle of a street. A cruiser pulled over to see what was up and once they figured out it wasn't drug related and they weren't filing anything they took my buddy to the side and carefully explained to him that if he does stuff like that in the open where tourists see, it's a thing, and they (the police) have to come get involved. I'd walked up to see if I was making any phone calls or getting him out of jail that night, so I watched and heard everything they said.
The officer straight up said to my friend, "Take it somewhere else - a back street or something, not the main drag here. We get it dude. Nobody's going to cry over another dead crackhead in an alley... we don't care, just don't do it where we can see." One of the other cops piped in "Buddy, you got a river right there," as he was putting away his zipties. Dudes were not being sardonic.

A guy in a cruiser also used to follow my sister home everyday as she walked from middle school for months... Just following in the road as she walked on the sidewalk super creepy like. Five days a week. Said she was pretty once.

It's necessary but easy authority to abuse, and the screening could use some work.

I was once caught speeding (long time ago) by a California Highway Patrolwoman...and when she stopped me (this was just before entering the Bay Bridge from San Francisco to Oakland)...she asked for my registration...I couldn't find it...but realized it was in my glove compartment.

When I opened it...there was a packet of Zig-Zag's (yeah, that kinda paper, lol)...I got really nervous...and she said..."you are not smoking and driving, are you?"

I said, "no officer, those are not mine, they are from a friend!"

She said, "riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight..." And then she LAUGHED...I was bewildered to say the least.

Anyway...she walked to her patrol car, made a background check on me...came back to my car...and said, "I know you are not under the influence of marijuana, because that causes people to drive slower, not faster, and you were going pretty fast...I'll just give you a warning, just please slow down a bit"...then she laughed again...and went back to her patrol car...I couldn't believe my luck, lol.

Absolutely a true story...I'm not making this up.

My friends rolling papers, she should have gave you a ticket just for telling her that Will have to admit that was pretty darn cool of her to just let you go like that

working with m local police department , i can say they dont have ticket qoutas . they could pull you over for a numerous number of things. they can find something wrong with your car even if its brand new the book of violations is as thick as the bible. maybe i am lucky to have a good local police departent but even oother cops ge pulled over , i know of one in particualr who got pulld over for having his fopa logo covering a small part of his plate. so sometimes the stickers dont help. glad i coul help you dispell somerumors about the police department at least here in my hometown. mike

I always get a little nervous. Why? I have no real reason why. I'm an upstanding citizen who works for the Feds.
