    lightbulb

OK - I'm not a conspiracist, but I am really wondering if the manufacturers of old skool incandescent light bulbs are messing with me.
I'm not a big fan of the curly q flourescent bulbs, and the led ones are a bit too pricey for me to fill up my house with so I still have a bunch your regular old fashioned tom edison bulbs in my light fixtures.
Recently, I have been replacing them waaaay more frequently than I ever have in the past. Like, maybe every two months or so.
Maybe my house is now shooting out 145 instead of 110 at the fixtures, but I am just thinking the bulb manufacturers are making them with shorter lifespans. or maybe I am just crazy

        >I am just thinking the bulb manufacturers are making them with shorter lifespans.

Could be. Could be that they're trying to keep prices down by using cheaper materials. Could also be some weird psychological effect that we've all become climatized to the curly bulbs lifespan so the old incandescents only SEEM like they're lasting less.... or we're more aware of buying them.

Are they going to stop making the old school ones? I'm mostly switched over to the curlys.

The Gov't put a ban on incandesent light bulbs a few years back. It's going in phases. They have stopped 100w and I believe 75 at this point. eventually there wont be anymore incandesent bulbs. Great thing is, curly bulbs have mercury in them(look it up) and have to be hazard disposed of. People just toss them in the trash and they go to the land fill where the mercury seeps into our water table. Pretty green huh. If you break one N E V E R vacuum it up, you will throw the mercury dust into the air and breath it. We have enough incandesents to hopefully never buy a curly. Just another consequence of gov't meddling for our protection.

I don't like curly bulbs --- they're still fluorescent bulbs and give the place an office building feel.

Also, I can't justify paying $5.00+ for one light bulb.

I hate the new bulbs -- they don't seem as bright, and they don't last as long as advertised, at least for me. Plus when they do go, I have to save them for the bi-annual haz waste recyclying.

One thing I did notice ... It seems Sylvania bulbs (which would seem like a good brand and everybody has them) are the worst of all.

I use Shop Rite (local grocery store) brand ones.

They're cheaper and seem to last longer

According to the Gov't you shouldn't have to change these except every few years.

Regular bulbs seem to be hard to find around here, so I went all curly. They do last MUCH longer. The initial cost of replacing each one that went bad was a bit high, but I can't tell you the last time I replaced a curly bulb.

I use hundreds of these at my job abd I have been saying for several years that these only last a fraction of what they used to. I always preface it with the I'm not a conspiracy guy either. These used to last several years. They now last less than a year on average.

As some of you may know, we have a small, private grass airfield. It only took two times to realize that when a radial engine plane or helicopter passes through, all my CF bulbs flicker and burn out. I have asked at the small local airports and they use standard CF bulbs for all building lighting, but it is much further away than our situation at home. On the fields, they use mega-expensive CF bulbs. Needless to say, I have a HUGE stockpile of incandescent bulbs.

My wife used to worked for a government branch dealing with new technology.
They're purposely building in "limited life span", engineering pieces that will "fail" after a certain amount of time. That's economy for ya...

Who knows? Maybe in the future, a group of light bulbs will escape, travel back to Earth and confront their Maker. I'd call it Bulb Runner...
