I've been fascinated with Great Whites since I was scared out of my wits watching Jaws in 1975. I was only in 5th grade and have never been more afraid in a theater. Funny how those things that scare you the most end up being the very things you pursue. The only thing I always snicker at is the way Discovery always markets the Great White very much like Jaws. But then back pedals during the analysis to suggest their "misunderstood creatures" that make "accidents" when they attack people. Personally I have always found that perception outrageous. The ocean is the home of wild life just like the Serengeti is. But if a group of people decide to play volley ball where the Cheetah's roam, no one will question whether the Cheetah made a "mistake" if it decides to attack them. They'll blame the people for being dumb enough to set up a game knowing full well they could be attacked. So why doesn't that apply in the ocean? Well it does. It just doesn't sound fair since society has decided they have a 'right' to vacation in those waters without complaint from those that live there. 2012 has been an especially bad year too for Great White attacks. Many killed and one just recently bitten in half and eaten whole after the Great White chased off a nearby patron trying to recover the body on a jet ski. That's why I will always say Jaws was more art imitating life than vice-verse. Sure Jaws took some liberties, but not as many as people think. Great Whites are predators and shouldn't be played with. There's a good reason why they have survived since the dinosaur days. And it wasn't from making mistakes.
