I disagree , i think he is the best ever..I know he does more events then the average Olympian but he has 16 Golds! That will never be done again...He has proven to be the best swimmer ever and to be the best Olympian you have to have the medals to back it up and he's done it time and time again

Yes there are better and will be better athletes and heck it's harder to win a gold medal in a ton of events...but in the end he is the Greatest Olympian by far and I think "20 medals" speaks for itself

    My Michael Phelps rant...

Look, I know he's a great athlete and all...but this current talk about him being the best Olympian ever is ludicrous and a slap in the face to true Olympic legends.

Swimmers have an unfair advantage over every other Olympic event...that sport is set up for one guy to win multiple times (look how many swimmers are out there with multiple medals)...just ask Mark Spitz...and a boatload of other swimmers. Phelps is a tremendous athlete, but the talk of 'Greatest Olympian EVAR!' is premature ejaculation from an increasingly sensationalist media. It's nice to have feel good stories, but swimming is slanted toward repeated individual success. For instance, how is a tennis player supposed to ever become a 'Greatest Olympian EVAR!'? They only just added doubles as an event, before it was just a one event type thing. How about rowers, sailors, or cyclists? How many different medals can you amass in those sports? Track and field is really where it's at, decathletes especially.

Give me a track and field competitor over any swimmer...starting with Jesse Owens (a true great Olympic hero)...he made Hitler take a dump in his pants. I am not an Olympic Historian, but how can you compare this type of feat (Phelps) to something like Jesse Owen winning in Berlin as a black athlete in front of Hitler? That was some otherworldy feat right there.

Also any decathlete shiats all over Phelps (his multiple medals don't mean squat).

    Here's what a decathlete does:

    Day 1

    100 metres
    Long jump
    Shot put
    High jump
    400 metres

    Day 2

    110 metres hurdles
    Discus throw
    Pole vault
    Javelin throw
    1500 metres

Now that my friend...is a true Olympic badarse.

    OK...rant over...
