    John Wayne & Tarzan Marathons

For those with DVRs, Turner Classic Movies has a John Wayne Marathon running today (Aug.1) and a Johnny Weismuller Tarzan Marathon on Friday.

The Tarzan films are running out of order. The later ones from RKO run in the morning with the MGM ones coming later. There's also a pretty good documentary just before prime time. TCM is also running several of Weismuller's Jungle Jim flicks late Friday/early Saturday, made after Johny got too flabby to be running around without a shirt.

The films certainly are faithful to the source material and of course they are dated and formulaic, but they can be quite fun if you just go with it.

If nothing else, Maureen O'Sullivan's British accent is just plain sexy.

Love the swimming scenes as well as Cheetah's antics.

I'm a little disappointed "The Quiet Man" didn't make the cut on the John Wayne marathon, but they are showing "Trouble Along the Way" where the Duke plays a cheating college football coach. Chuck "Rifleman" Connors plays one of his assistants, lol.

I'm thinking some major DVRin' may be in order. TCM has been showing some really good stuff lately.

Thanks for the reminder. The Tarzan movies are fun and I haven't seen Jungle Jim movies for years.

Every Saturday after cartoons it was Tarzan or abbot and costello.

I'm hardly ever off on Saturdays, but on vacation a few months back I turned on AMC one Saturday morning and Tarzan's Greatest Adventure was on. For some reason, it was one of the best times I'd ever had watching TV, like it was the coolest surprise.
