I think you made the right choice. Maybe she didn't leave now, but maybe you gave her something to think about - there are people who are willing to try and help. Who knows.

At the very least you won't be up at night cursing yourself for not doing anything.

Anybody who hits a girl should have his *** kicked, Period. If she goes back 100 times and gets hit, the *** should get kicked 100 times. Eventually, one of them will get tired of getting beat up. You did the right thing.

Years ago I had a neighbor who beat his girlfriend. One night I hear here screaming bloody murder so I call the cops. Before they got there I honestly thought he was gonna kill her so I kicked in their door. Cops showed up, she wouldn't let them in! Here she is with two black eyes and a fat lip, crying, and telling the cops they just argued!
They were ready to haul me away though, for kicking the door in.
Eventually they let me off the hook cause they knew she was lying to protect the scumbag, but damn! I said never again.

so I drive up to Hialeah in Miami about an hour away from where I live cause my mechanics there...He asks me if I can pick up the Freon for the AC at Walmart across the street.. I park and as i'm walking I see a dude hitting his chick, he grabs her by the neck and throws her in the car and actually takes a swing at her..She yells HELP!! POLICE!! in Spanish.. I see 2 Cops outside walmart chatting away not even noticing..So I think 1 do I go beat the crap out of this scrub and risk getting arrested or B just yell out to the cops again? I yell at the guy and when he see's me he takes off..I call the Cops and say hey that guy just beat the crap out of this chick in the van and he took off! they say who? I say the guy over there with the red shirt.. She get's in turns on the car and tries to leave, they stop her and ask her in front of me and she swears It's not true.. I'm like w t f?? I'm like I know you're scared but you asked for help and I'm trying to help you, she still says NO! The cop looks at me and says well I guess there's nothing to do here? an old lady pops out and says she did ask for help I saw him hit her! The cop says sorry I can't do anything... I walk up to the chick and I tell her, you see? Next time he beats you, don't bother asking for help...Or even worse, there might not be anyone there to hear you

The cops like, I know you meant well man...I was like that's the last time I ever try this crap! (which is not true I'll always try and help if they ask for it) but dang man, it was frustrating, she was calling me a liar to my face oh well

Not only that but about beating him up, I saw a recent news story where a family is trying to get resolve 30 years later still because this type of situation occurred locally. The guy was beating her and this other guy stopped to help and got himself shot and murdered. This is an unsolved case 30 years later. It's good to help but watch your back/ be careful.

I was going to post something similar to that...but didn't want to get too morbid.

It's a heroic thing you tried to do, Damien...but next time...you should consider not getting involved...your family and loved ones come first...you never know what kinda crazy couple you might run into...hell...not only could he be packing...but even the female getting smacked could be packing (and then she'd turn on you)...it's a crazy world out there.

But kudos to you, Damien, and going straight to the cops was absolutely the right thing to do...even if they didn't care or react...you did the right thing there.

wELCOME TO MY WORLD BROTHER. dOMESTICS ARE THE WORST. WE ARE FORCED TO FILE CHARGES ON ALL DOMESTICS AND WHEN IT GOES TO COURT THEY REFUSE TO TESTIFY OR EVEN SHOW UP, WE STARTED VIDEO TAPING ALL STATEMENTS, BUT THE D.A.'S STILL THROW OUT THE TESTIMONY. I respond back to more domestics...return call after return call....they just keep going back to them. I understand they are scared, and don't know how to survive without their man, but come on ladies...these guys will never change if you dont prosecute.

Those must be the sketchiest calls for you. I remember some crazy stories from my cop friends back in Baltimore. Unpredictability personified.
And of course if anything happens afterwards it's your damn fault in their eyes. That's a job I could do for one day, tops.

I just got the most disturbing news ever at work today. One of the part time employees killed his girlfriend last night. I am so saddened by this. I had a confrontation with this person a few weeks back and i got the vibe he could snap. Now i find this out. I feel i could have done something but ultimately what?Hopefully that woman can come to her senses and get away from that coward.
