Watch out. You too can be arrested for weilding...a french fry...

A man was recently arrested at McDonalds for assault with a deadly weapon for throwing french fries at his stepdaughter's face. So the next time you get that urge to play...well...watch out! My friends, this country is so delusional with it's assessment of justice, I don't know what could be next. Illegal farting?

While I agree that "assault with a deadly weapon" is a bit over the top, I fully would agree that this idiot should be charged w/ something. It's insulting/humiliating behaviour to be throwing anything in a child's face, regardless of what it was, and to be doing so in public is even worse. you can pretty much guarantee this isn't an isolated incident within this family.

I agreed with you based on what you wrote, but the article tells a different story.

                A) The charge was "assault with a dangerous weapon" NOT a "deadly weapon"

                B) He wasn't playing with her, he was angry and arguing. He got mad and threw "hot French fries" in the young girl's face.

He sounds like a total creep - and that sounds like assault to me.

I have been on the grand jury for nearly six months now. We meet every other Wednesday and thankfully the next one will be my last. A week ago we were there for 14 hours because we had to hear a lengthy case that involved an officer killing a man. I wish I could go into all the details but I will just say that it was a joke. Not saying the officer did anything criminal but the case presented to us by the top two DA's was horrible. I picked it apart to the point of not even needing to hear anymore of it long before they finally finished. They don't like when you ask lots of questions pertaining to evidence and testimony that doesn't add up.

He wasn't wielding a french fry; he threw them in his daughter's face.

Seems to me the outrage is misplaced if you are defending someone with obvious anger management issues who is violent with their children in a public place with lots of other children around. Imagine what he does to his kids in private.

I do agree, though... where is the country heading when we aren't free to assault our children with boiling oil and salt? Don't tread on my fries!

Just for the record my comment wasn't aimed at this particular case. I detest people who treat their children badly especially in public. I am just still angry at the garbage I had to sit through last week so I needed to vent a bit.

As far as this case goes if the man was just playing around he never would have been charged. I have seen people toss fries at each other more times then I can remember and nobody ever called the police. It is pretty obvious that there was much more to this then just playing around and bravo to whomever called the police on him.

Actually, I am often the jerk who says what is on my mind when I see people act this way. I'll never forget standing in line at the grocery store when I heard the well worn out phrase "I'll give you something to cry about" from a women that smacked her crying toddler. I turned to her and said something like "If you do that again I will give YOU something to cry about." The look on her face and the faces of those around us was priceless. I don't deal well with people that abuse kids or animals. And I freely admit that I can be oversensitive on those issues.

Wouldn't it have been even more funny if her 6'4, 235 lb husband walked up from behind and said the same thing to you afterwards? Now THAT would be priceless. I don't think imposing your parenting values on others is a recipe for a long life. I was raised old school, so I got whipped. I grew up just fine and my kids have seen very little of it. But I don't presume to think every time a child is being disciplined, it immediately means "abuse". The message in our society is entirely too soft on making kids accountable before it becomes the taxpayer's job once they turn 18. And then we wonder why we have so many idiots committing heinous acts. It's because no one ever taught them consequences to those actions. Unless a child is getting pummeled, I think it's wise to back off.

I'm 6' 3" and 210 so it wouldn't have scared me if he did.

And honestly I have been beaten up before so if someone wants to hit me then it is their choice but I would also press charges which would be my choice. I am not going to back down to a bully if at all possible and just because this was a child's parent (possibly, I really had no way of knowing the relationship and just guess that it was the kid's mother) doesn't mean they weren't bullying the child. I also got "the belt" and spanked when I was young but my parents also had more class then to do that to me in a very public place. Plus they never slapped my across my face. I am not anti corporal punishment as much as I am against slapping small children across the face in a public setting then telling them if they don't stop crying you will do it again. I'd say the same thing again without hesitation if put in the same situation. That woman made her choice and I made mine. And as mentioned in this thread if someone is willing to treat a child like that in public then how are they treating that child in private? That is the scary part. It may not help that my wife worked as a social worker dealing with foster care for over 10 years and I have heard way too many bad stories.
