Actually, I think the new policy is geared towards providing more privacy. I don't want anyone looking at my page that is a lurker. I don't get on much, maybe once a week. I have a few private pages that I manage or co-manage. We have a large core of classmates that enjoy keeping in touch with each other, including mini reunions once or twice a year, and we created a classmates page to help send out invitations and other stuff. It's actually very helpful.

Not that I want to join Facebook, but how are people supposed to see what they're joining if they're not allowed to look? That's just ridiculous! And now I really don't wanna join any site that excludes potential members from taking a peek at what they wanna join. Does anyone else find this absurd?
If anyone is that "borderline" that they are thinking of joining FB in order to partake in a certain FB page/pages,
it seems to me that it'd be worth it for that person to "cross the borderline" and join FB,
if only as an experiment.
Now that it's impossible to lurk, a few potential FBers will indeed break down and experiment with FB, just to see if they like it....
and THOSE are the people that they are interested in addressing w/this new "non-lurker" approach: i.e. The "target audience"
for this new FB member recruiting scheme.
If the non-lurker scenario frustrates you enough to continue "out of their grasp", then you weren't that "borderline" target consumer they were
addressing with he new change to begin with."No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris MannixComment

Well this is why I prefer message boards. The other FB page that I lurk on is for Springfield Collection dolls, and my doll videos are featured on there quite a bit, as well as my friend's blog and announcements concerning the line. If it were just ala carte pages you could join, like message boards, I'd have no problem. But I don't like the whole "friends" thing, and folks who just feel like being trolls posting on your "wall". And if anyone who matters to me really wants to get in touch w/ me, there's e-mail, my Shaun Cassidy website, and YouTube, and of course, Mego Museum. I'm not interested on lurking on people's personal pages, that's just creepy. But for the rest like my dolls, or Rick Springfield, or Svengoolie, I think I should be allowed to lurk if I want to. Bring back MESSAGE BOARDS! DOWN WITH FACEBOOK!!
I'm not seeing the absurdity.

If your mission is magic your love will shine true."Comment

^I think you're right.
I have two Facebook accounts. One for me and one for my fictional character from my comic. It's fun to pretend to be someone else once in a while.Comment

A lot of people like to talk smack about Facebook. I admit that I am very uninterested in "social networking", but some situations find Facebook a very useful tool. I moved away from my hometown, two decades worth of friends, and nearly all my family about 15 years ago. I was always "out of the loop" until I caved and signed up. Now I see my Niece and Nephews growing up, stay in touch with my old drinking buddies, and see how fat all my exes have gotten. The disconnect that distance brings can be overcome with a tool like FB.
Now...one of us...one of us...Comment

I lurk at a few Facebook pages b/c I'm either mentioned on them, or I need to see a TV schedule that isn't mentioned on my cable guide (like Svengoolie), but I can't even do that anymore. Now as soon as the wall page loads you get the "not logged in" page. Not that I want to join Facebook, but how are people supposed to see what they're joining if they're not allowed to look? Facebook is doing it to stop lurkers from going on and looking at peoples open pages and stealing pics. you close down the page no one sees anything. there are plenty of Fan pages for the person who just wants to go and lurk on those pages and get the latest from their favorite celebrity...you don't have to add any friends if you so choose too.
I use it to network with models and photographers I know, I don't just add anyone. I don't sweat if someone posts tons of pics because you can hide friends who post silly stuff on your news feed. I have tons of friends who live in other countries and this is a great way to keep up with them........Comment

Wait, you lurk but you don't want to join? I don't understand. If you like those pages it takes less than 5 minutes to join and lock down your page for privacy...you don't get friends automatically you have to seek and find them if you so desire to have them. You don't have to post pics, so your face won't be there if you don't want it.

It's just FB trying to get more ad income by forcing people to join. There are serious privacy issues there that need addressing, too. I was on my Mom's account troubleshooting something for her and in her newsfeed were posts I'd made on various pages that were really no one's concern. They were political in nature and I stand by what I posted, but they were also not intended for mass consumption by anyone that knows me, but a select group--namely, the page I posted on. If I "Like" a comment by Donald Driver, f.ex., by Dad's cousin's kid doesn't need to know about it and there is no real way to fix that easily.
I also read that google links their searches to f.b. posts. If you, for instance, "like" a link to an article, when someone googles that article, or comes across it in a search, your "like" will come up in the results.
I agree f.b. is good for keeping in touch, and for ease of contacting several friends at once, but that's where I draw the line. NO personal info, NO likes, NO links, NO purchases...Comment
