Oakland is there...funny that despite me living there for 30 years or so...have never experienced any personal form of violence to me or any of my family.

BTW, Oakland is split down the middle in population, roughly one third white, one third black, and one third latino...with added asians to round off the pie.

But sadly, in terms of homicide, it's mostly black on black crime.

A couple of years ago for example, there were about 100 homicides in one year...out of those 100 deaths, 87 were black...7 were latino, 5 were asian, and 1 white person.

The Generals ended up essentially "going out of business" at the end of the 2010 season.

And, Yes, Peranis Hockey World is still around although Bob Perani passed a few months ago.

odd bit of trivia, it seems Bob Perani was quite the collector and used the rest of the small mall that houses his namesake hockey store to show off his crazy eclectic collation of random things.
Things like a taxidermied giraffe, a diesel powered Shriner elephant, several amazing antique sail boat mastheads, and randomly a hero space suit from the movie Red Planet, along with a huge amount of other things.
It was/is always a very cool distraction hidden away in a pretty bad part of town (depending on the time of day)
