    Woooo! We're number 1!!!.....wait, what?

Nothing like turning on the computer today and seeing a skyline shot of my neighborhood on the main page of Yahoo.

It was because Flint Michigan is the "most dangerous" city in the country based on crime stats for cities with 100,000+ residents.

Seems the only time we'll stop topping that list will be when we finally drop below 100,000 people, and at this rate, it won't be long.

    A grim distinction.

I hear ya! And if they downsize the police force it'll be quicker yet. Shame!

That sucks. Not something to take lightly. Seattle has had more homicides in the first six months of the year than we did in all of 2011. A few weeks ago we had 5 in one day by the same shooter and something like 7-8 (including those 5) in a weeks time.

well, we've managed to stay in the top 5 for as long as I can recall.

I've lived in the city limits for 30yrs and have only directly experienced the kind of crime referenced in the article 3 times.
Granted, zero times would be ideal, but I've "lucked out" and bucked the curve I guess.

It does get rather Post-Apocalyptic / Wild-west around here from time to time.

It's all a statistics game. They do have more occurrences, but they also have 3 times the population, so our percentage is higher I guess.

This will make you wonder what are they thinking.
They want to or did implement a system to report non emergencies online, but they want to downsize the force! Huh, what????
I used to like going to the Genessee mall. Now I won't make that 25 mile drive. Nu huh!

yeah, I work there part time as my second gig, I spend most all of my shifts catching or deterring shoplifters and explaining to "customers" that 'No, we don't accept EBT. Oh, you have a check too? with no I.D.?...no thanks.'

                      Fun times.

not sure what is more disturbing; the stats and story, or the racism in the comments section.

Gary, Indiana used to be murder capital of the world, and Flint isn't too far from that. Here locally, there is a neighborhood called Over the Rhine that is very similar. last year it was rated the number one worst area in America. There is a 1 in 5 chance of being a victim of violent crime. My previous store wasn't too far from that madness...
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.

Around here Cook county is usually near the top for large cities and our county (Winnebago) is often not too far behind percentage wise. I've lived here my entire life and have grown used to it. You just learn where NOT go at certain times, especially after dark.
