I've also got to mention that neither Elvis nor KISS(puleeeese) hold a candle to the Beatles IMO.
I've been a KISS fan since the 70's and even I would agree with this. There is ZERO comparison between KISS and the Beatles. The Beatles rewrote the book on how one could express themselves both through song and lyrics. They single handily restructured the musical landscape.

Ok you guys, I'll give in on this one, Elvis was indeed very important and influential to Rock and Roll and is deserved his place.
As far as the tribute thing I'm guessing the reason there are very few Beatles tribute bands is because nobody can recreate their harmony/sound in its excellence.

No question Elvis open the doors. But the Beatles paved the road. For anyone looking for great Beatles covers you should come to 'Abby Road on the River' in Louisville. It's one of the biggest celebrations of the Beatles anywhere. And we have it once a year. Usually on Memorial Day weekend. Here's a link...

Not that I have a dog in the fight but I had to comment. When it comes to Elvis impersonators sure there are tons, because its really not that hard to do. While the original Elvis is wonderful the ability to copycat him is surprisingly easy considering what most of these guys do. Blah.... Now a Beatles impersonator... that's a whole different ball game.

First the person has to sound like either John, Paul, George or Ringo and THEN they also have to be quite solid as a musician to match their vocal abilities to being able to play an instrument (God bless the right handed Paul McCartney wannabes). And THEN these four kindred spirits must find one another. Elvis folks only have to tackle three chords as a solo act if they even bother picking up an acoustic guitar.

KISS Is also much easier considering its much more about the look than the music. Sure they can't totally trash the tracks but if their make up and costumes are solid there's enough wiggle room for lack luster musicianship.

And again they've only gotta work with 3 or 4 standard chords in 4 / 4 time.

Ever notice how no Elvis impersonators really look like Elvis, yet they all look exactly like each other?
Expectation is the death of discovery.
