I find it kinda of a moot point...since the planet Earth is already in space, lol.

Did you read the whole article?
The first attempt to launch Doohan's ashes into space ended with the capsule falling back into the ocean.
Apparently, the engines couldn't take it anymore...

This is really strange because I don't follow the news but I was unpacking some boxes from 2007 yesterday and one of the newspapers had a little blurb about James Doohan's ashes being launched into orbit and that they had crashed down along with some others, to be recovered finally some months after. What are the odds that the very next day someone would post this message??

Like yeah, the series should have taken place in Pennsylvania, that would have been interesting.

I dont think they leave the ashes up there.

They just send them up and bring them down

                Like they did with Roddenberry

Kind of a waste of money for the family

I do think some folks stay up there though. I remember at one of the conventions, they had a guy talking about it, and you could fill out forms to get info sent to you.

According to the article, the ashes stay inside one of the jetissoned steps of the rocket, floating in space until the orbit decays, and the thing burns upon re-entering the atmosphere.

If they time it perfectly, the burning embers might even set flame to Shatner's toupee...

My Dad always wanted to see places, but didn't feel like actually going there.
I scattered half of his ashes in the Grand Canyon in 2006. The rest will be taken to the UK. I don't mind doing his traveling for him.

The Navy Buried my Dad's ashes to sea off the Coast of North Carolina. We sent Mom's out to sea from the coast a few years later.

Well SpaceX pulled it off. The Dragon successfully docked. Pretty big stuff really!

My parents actually did make it to quite a few places in the UK, and they especially liked the North of Wales.
There is a special place, Beddgelert.

The Legend of Gelert, Beddgelert, Snowdonia, North Wales

                            What happened there?
Long time ago, a nobleman who travels a lot, has a big dog to guard his child from attacks by wolves. One day he returns to find the child's bedroom covered in blood, and the dog as well. The child is gone.
He thinks the dog has gone wild, killing the kid, and he kills his dog.
He then find the child unharmed, and the mauled body of a big wolf. The dog guarded the child against the wolf, hence all the blood.
The man was so full of remorse, he built a tomb for his dog, which you can still visit.

My parents were always touched by this story, and it seems like a fitting place to scatter the rest of my Dad's ashes.
