Any home brewers in the house?

I was given a home brewing kit this past Christmas and have to admit, I'm getting hooked on it. My first attempts resulted in a) the tastiest "near beer" I've ever had and b) beer so flat the English would call it flat.

However my third batch is so tasty that I'm actually repeating the same kit for batch four.

I only use kits right now but I have friends who just buy malt and create their own recipes, I can see myself doing that in the near future.

Anybody else a fan?

I'm a home brewer! My friend and I started off following five gallon recipes and then branched out into doing our own thing. We recently were able to sample fully conditioned bottles of our first quadruple (an attempt to replicate Lost Abbey's "Judgment Day"). In all honesty, I think it is amazing and so much cheaper than buying cases of a commercial quad.

What's the highest ABV beer that you've attempted? What types have you been brewing? If you do ever try a tripel or a quad, I'd be glad to help you out with some advice.

big fan. I like to cook from the grain. Unfortunately tho, craft brewing is yet another one of the time and space grabbers in my world. I would love a house with a utility kitchen to craft brew in.

I made a few batches years ago, with moderate success. My best was a cherry wheat brew that was all-around pretty nice. Currently, I'm toying with the idea of making a batch of mead. There's a meadery local to me (Brothers Drake), and I'd like to do it there. Maybe peach pie or tangerine with lavender. I'm just not sure I want to risk messing up a few gallons of honey, which isn't cheap.

It's easy and affordable. However, you do need to plan in advance and have a lot of patience. Let me know if you want to start and I could walk you through what you need.

Brian you'll need to set up a small bar one year at the Mego Meet for that. I would love to try your product. Assuming it leans on the malty side. That hoppy flavor is too harsh on my stomach.

Thanks, I've been mostly trying the Cooper's kits (first did Pilsener and then a Pale Ale) but I found a company that produces something called "Canada Draft Beer" and it's been my favourite. It comes out to about 4.5% and it's not half bad.

My brother-in-law is really deep into it. I've tried a bottle from two different batches, and although it didn't taste horrible both times I suffered....technical difficulties later. When he can top 5% APV and get taste close to Molson I'll roll the dice again.

I have never tried it myself, but it sounds interesting. The highest ABV I have personally tried is World Wide Stout which is 18%. Good stuff.

My sister-in-law got me a home kit for Xmas two years ago. It looks interesting and I love beer but I'm not seeing being able to invest the time. So it's still in the box...maybe I will offer it up in the Marketplace.

that's your belly getting used to having active yeast cultures go in it. Drink more bottle conditioned brews and that will go away. Either that, or your Bro needs to clean his equipment better.
