What Financial Matters Prevent You From Collecting Or Made You Retire?

I recently acquired my first DC Direct 13 inch figure.
CLASSIC BATMAN: This figure is awesome and I am aiming to get Robin next. The only problem I face with collecting these figures is that they are pricey as hell. And now, there is no way in eternity that I can ever find a Green Lantern at a good price.
Well this got me to thinking. We all have either financial responsibilities like providing for our spouses and kids or we have financial problems or crunches that keep us from collecting what we want or in some cases, some of us collectors had to retire and sell some if not all our collections.
So for an interesting topic, what financial burdens or duties have made you either curtail collecting temporarily or permanently?

For me, it's the ridiculously high gas prices. I have to gas up my gas guzzling Camaro every other day in my attempt to get to the gym every day due to a 30 minute drive. Plus as a type II Diabetic, I have to keep buying my supplies and medicine until the insurance finally kicks in and covers
pre-existing conditions, which it doesn't in the first year, so I am waiting. And finally, the basic bills.
I'm not married and have no kids, but it still sucks when you don't have money to spare for collectibles, but then again, that's life. We gotta live. In my case, I will never retire, but I have had to stop collecting for a while. This Batman figure is more like a late Christmas present. I haven't ordered a JLU figure in months.
What about you fellow collectors ( or former collectors)?
    Cheers.

Lost my job so the figures are going up on e-bay. Rc bats and rm robin are the only ones off the table childhood memories are attached to them.

This past year I've been the sole financial support for my sister who was diagnosed with overian cancer in July. Now I'm helping to support my mother after having triple bi-pass heart surgery. It's definately put my collecting on hold but I'm trying to splurge on a figure here and there. I just got lucky on a figure I've wanted for a while now but probably won't be buying anything for a few months at least. I'm not complaining one bit. If my collecting has come to an end then so be it.

                  Hmmmm....

I keep getting my hours cut at work. Although I should have some extra cash if I end up in Afghanistan.

The massive renovation to my home and the insufficient funds to do so. Big mistake but learning as I go. Dropped off the map for a while. Made me deal with my ebay addiction fairly quickly. Be back in the game in a few months and cant wait.

Yep, new baby and house and a lovely wife who's pretty sure I have enough toys.

I also got my collection to a place where the only direction I wanted to go was into pricier areas, and that seemed unwise.

I am bummed I never got that 13 " Green Lantern as well, With having a few of the others, & With the Green Lantern being one of my fav's, it sucks not to have him.

not really factors. I just have proirities that come before collecting, like family, home, freakin' house insurance!!!, gas to get to and from work. Collecting's always been low on the totem pole for me.
