He was reportedly shot in the chest. Possibly another player trying to preserve his brain for the brain bank. Just...yikes.

Shocked about sums it up for me as well. I heard this on the news earlier today. I could not believe it. I guess mainly because I did not want to believe it. He was only 43 years young. So sad to see someone so young go way before their time.

He was a great player and helped take the Chargers to their one and only Super Bowl.

My first guess (and I could be totally wrong) when I heard this tragic news was that maybe he came into what he thought was serious financial issues and he felt that their was no other way out. I see this a lot. Especially people who never had money that suddenly have lots of money and do not manage their newly found wealth wisely.

My guess is 30+ years (NFL /College /HS/JV/Pee wee) of bashing his body and head into others probably left his brain in a sad mental state. I doubt Seau was suffering from financial woes - he played 20 years in the NFL and was a smart guy. He was probably depressed about not playing anymore.

              Pure speculation of course.

That is definitely a possibility. Taking those kinds of hits cannot be good over time. I think it will be interesting to learn what really happened. Perhaps we will find out as the story continues to unfold in time.

Really sad and a bit of a rude awakening since he is right in the ballparke age wise as many of us. I will not even pretend to know what happened and just say RIP
