Lately, I've been listening to Lana Del Rey's "BORN TO DIE" CD a lot. I know there are folks who love to rag on the lovely Ms. Del Rey, but if you give the whole CD a listen, there really are some gems in there (warning: one song on the CD is definitely NSFW and should be kept away from the kiddies!). Also been listening to the scores from IRON MAN and THOR in the car as a way of audio-prepping myself for THE AVENGERS. I would listen to the CAPTAIN AMERICA score, but I haven't found a copy of it yet cheap enough to buy (I scored IRON MAN, THOR and THE DARK KNIGHT CDs all at the Half Price Bookstore for 3.99 each!).

Oh, and I've been indulging in a bit of melancholy, too, by listening to Samuel Barber's "Adagio for Strings"....
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

Born To Die is an amazing album. I've got close to 40 songs from Lana Del Rey and she's really good. I think she gets a bad rap because of all the hype that surrounded her. Her performance on SNL didn't help either but it wasn't nearly as bad as everyone made it out to be. I love Florence & The Machine but they were atrocious on SNL..way worse than Lana Del Rey and for some reason that didn't get any attention. Also no one really ever sounds good on that show for some reason. I've also got most of the Born To Die songs remixed which is what I kind of wish got released. Video Games, Blue Jeans and Summer Time Sadness are great songs on the LP but give it a beat and they go to 11.

Anyway, anyone know Stars...great Springtime Music.

I also heard this song last night in a Land Rover Commercial and had to find out who was singing it. Turns out its Dont Believe by Vashti Bunyan and although I'm pretty up on all kinds of music especially from back in the day, I honestly never heard of her before and was shocked to find out the song is 42 years old. It sounds like something that was just released.

And I just got an email from Metric saying their new song is available on the website so I'll be listening to that for sometime now too. I love Emily Haines!

I just got my copy of "The Avengers" score a couple of days ago, and I've already worn the CD needle down listening to it...

But I am finishing up a rather long and daunting work project, so when that happens I tend to pull out my 10 volume "Top 100 Classical Maspterpieces" CD set I purchased 20 years ago.

I recently discovered The Muslims on a friends iPod (now they're called The Soft Pack after dealing with too much nonsense related to their first name).

                Check 'em out:

I watched The Runaways movie on Monday, which was a terrible movie, but it put me in a 70s glam rock mood this week. So here's some live videos...

Rewatching the AMAZING British show "The Misfits" with my teenage sister in-law I decided to hunt down some of the music I didn't know from that excellent soundtrack:

(Coincidentally there was a Muslims/The Soft Pack song - funny how sometimes you learn about something for the first time, and then it comes up again right away, no?)

                The Soft Pack: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhWrcjY7gHQ

                Candi Staton: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuNK7o22Gaw
(I can't believe I never heard of her before, she's phenomenal)

                Hot Chip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXzLT4RoC1o
(the music doesn't actually start until about 2 min. in. Why? My guess is that it's because kids don't make any damn sense. Goofy video - I'm not even sure it's the official video - but fun track.)

There's lots more great things on the soundtrack, but those were my 3 favorites of the things I didn't know before.
