    Holding back a sneeze

Was just in the store last night and seen a woman do something that has had me stumped all the way back to grade school when some kids used to do this.

I always wondered how some people can hold back a sneeze.

If I hold my nose the sneeze will naturally come out my mouth.

I see some people hold their nose AND keep their mouth shut too --- the sneeze then is muffled and never escapes

How can somebody do that ?

I'm almost afraid to ask where it does escape from

Actually b/c of my bad back, I have to hold my sneezes back, b/c a sneeze shakes your whole body and when my back is spazzing out, it REALLY hurts to sneeze or cough.

I knew a machinist who was working on a lathe at a funny angle. He sneezed and ruptured a disk in his back. He said it was weird cause he could feel the fluid shooting out. Gross right? Sneezes can be dangerous.

Holding back a sneeze is the easiest trick I've ever mastered. Piece of cake.

yea i can easily hold back as well...it's kind of a weird sensation to do it...but if you're in a crowded place it should be common courtesy not to spit out your bugers and saliva all over everyone

I hold mine back because my cat hates it when I sneeze. No idea why,I get such dirty looks from her when I do.

Mine used to make this weird little noise, kinda like a cross between a mew and a chirrup.

Also, you should never hold back a sneeze; according to what I've heard, you can burst a blood vessel that way, and that ain't good.

But no one says that you have to spray boogers and saliva everywhere.

That's just unhygienic. Sneeze into a tissue, hanky or your sleeve; definitely not your hands.

My wife sneezes so loud she can wake the dead. I can hold back a sneeze if I want in a business meeting but generally will sneeze into the elbow of my arm which I understand is appropriate etiquette.

Ditto, sometimes when I sneeze it causes my body to shake and I end up seeing stars after
