I recently got my son hooked on vintage Three Stooges shorts (or as he calls them, "the funny guys". Curly is his favourite of course) so now he wants to see the new movie, so I'll be taking him. Trailer doesn't look bad at all, I'm hoping it's a decent film. I don't have the heart to tell him that the original Stooges are all dead now.
I'm naturally skeptical about them replacing my beloved Stooges...but those guys are doing a perfect impression and it is directed by the Farrelly brothers.
Plus...the new Star Trek movies proves "re-casting" can work.
Will Sasso is one of the most underrated funny guys in the biz. The guy can do anyone and do them dead on perfect. I think the movie will be just what the stooges were, dumb stupid comedy but that's why we love them.
My whole family wants to see this. Nice to know the humor is being kept in the PG range. Nothing like raunching up a beloved childhood movie or TV show (think Dukes of Hazzard).
A close friend was able to see a sneak peek viewing of this last night. He said it's exactly what we would expect it to be. He said it was done in total Stooge fashion. It is slapstick, dumb, mindless comedy but just like it should be. If your a fan you will love it. He said the 3 lead actors were incredible and the real stooges would have been proud of their performance. They were all dead on but Sasso steals the show of course.
Although I generally hate this idea and think Hollywood tends to ruin stuff like this... They were on RAW a week or two ago and they didn't do a bad impression when they were doing the skits. Aside from the dumb WWE influenced stuff, but the actual Stooges routine wasn't that bad.
Saw it today with the wife and kids, and laughed my arse off. I had tears in my eyes. It's VERY faithful to the Stooges comedy, and even the format of their shorts. Not raunchy, just a few things here and there that may make a few folks squirm in front of their kids.
The 3 actors did amazing jobs, but I gotta say the guy who played Moe impressed me more than anyone. I actually forgot he wasn't Moe Howard a time or two.
If you want a good laugh and love the Stooge's brand of humor, go out and see it. I'll be buying the DVD for sure. I'd even see it again in theaters.
