I sold my other collection (LSU sports collection)

As some of you may or may not remember about 4 years ago, I decided to sell my toy collection because I was trying to collect two things at one time, toys and LSU memorabilia, and decided to stick strictly with LSU.

    Well, I did it again.

For the last few months, the collecting world just did not interest me anymore. I have more fun and excitement finding things more than collecting them (as most know I am a picker).

I have decided to get out of the collecting world, and go back to my roots, garage sale & estate sale picking. For the last four or five years, when I would go garage selling, I would only look for LSU items or toy items, instead of finding some weird item for a quarter and flipping it on eBay for $100.

So, last week, I put my LSU collection up for sale, and have sold most of it for nearly $11,000!!!

I did start a new hobby last year, photography, and have been studying up on it for a few months now. It was something I took in college and have never lost interest in it, but never did anything about the interest.

I did take $700 yesterday and went and bought me a VERY nice new lens for my camera.

You guys will be seeing me around here more often. I haven't been around the last couple years because I was busy managing my own forum for LSU collectors (which I have now shut down). I would stop by here every couple of days, but rarely post.

LSU would have turned me off when they sent you that C&D for your website.

If it was me I would have stopped collecting them right then and there.

Just out of curiousity was your decision to sell more based on disinterest in collecting LSU, getting fed up with maintaining a website, moving on to other interests, etc.?

I have for the most part kept my main collections and go through periods of disinterest only to come back a few months later and am interested again.

I don't have the opportunity to frequent estate sales, yard sales, etc. but would if I had the time since I really do enjoy it.

I have sold off some items that I'm not particularly attached to and use the money to add to my various collections and was just curious what caused the change of heart.

Mostly lost interest in collecting (maintaining the website was an entire different issue).

Alot of LSU collectors treat their collections like holy grails. They get in a very nice piece, treat it like their first born.

I have always treated my LSU collection like a 3-D baseball card collection. It was nothing but a buy/sell/trade/collect item. The items had no sentimental value to me like some collectors do. I had no family members play in these games or anything like that. These items were just 3-D baseball cards.

I would get in some very rare pieces, show it off for a while, and than up into my collection room it would go, where I would rarely go.

It felt VERY good to get rid of the collection.

The only piece I kept is a panoramic photograph of the first game ever in Tiger Stadium, 1924. I have since got it licensed through LSU and I am working with a couple other guys, selling a limited number of prints.
