Angelina Jolie cast in Maleficent

With a title as bad as that it will probably lose more money than John Carter, (of MARS!). What Wicked is to Wizard of Oz; Maleficent is to Snow White I guess.

My initial reaction is UCK gross.

But it's mostly because Maleficent if my favorite Villianess (liquid cool evil), and that's my favorite Disney animated movie. Initially I feel nobody could either justice in a live action. Also I have NO faith in the Disney of today. They seem more interested in caching in on trends than making real magic.

However upon closer thought, I'll definitely keep an open mind. It would be really interesting to see that world fleshed out, I just hope they keep it at least a little dark and complex. The original animated movie itself had bite at some points (Maleficent taunting a chained prince in her dungeon...hello bondage!).
Also, that's one of the most beautiful movies, I hope they keep some of the lush eyecandy. Still, it's DISNEY. *sigh*

With the story being retold from the perspective of the witch, Maleficent is the perfect title. And with a woman as hot as Jolie in the role, this has great potential.
