You ever get sad when..

You go past the place where you had lot's of good childhood/teen times and it's no longer there? Movie theaters, toy stores, restaurants, malls etc that no longer are there or are something different and demolished even. When I go back to visit where I grew up I always get bummed that alot of places aren't there anymore. Anyone else ever get like this?

It pains me to no end to go to a place that used to be a great local cinema, and now it's all gutted and turned into a garage or something...

Yep, my old neighborhood when I use to go visit my dad before he moved.....I would stay over on weekendfs at times and it was sad not to hear children laughing and playing.....the neighborhood had completely changed....I spent one whole day photographing my whole neighborhood. I took my son with me and I got to show him around...was good therapy for me......

Should add Music Stores to that list. It really depresses me when a great music store where I got lot's of good music (and still have to this day) is no longer there. I really miss going into those stores in the pre internet days and talking and meeting people that like the same stuff you do. Music seemed so much larger than life to me in those days.

I loved my old mom and pa music store.

It was called Country Pie Records

They used to hold a local band concert in their parking lot every Friday night in the summer

Most bands played Smoke on the Water and Fee Bird

Back in like 1974 they built our local indoor mall.

By today's standards it would be really small.

They tore it down around 1995

Today there's a Home Depot there.

Kinda adds insult to injury to not even replace it with another mall.

Would the town REALLY rather have a Home Depot instead of a mall ?

I just read recently that my old elementary school was demolished. I now live apprx. 250 miles away and haven't been to the neighborhood to see, but was pretty bummed when I heard.

My childhood home was torn down years ago. I only lived in one place and my mom held onto the place after my dad died for about 10 years, but found it more difficult to keep up with the basic maintenance, my brothers and I tried to help out as much as we could, but I think it got to a point where she was unhappy seeing all of the Mcmansions going up around her and living alone while we all lived at least 30 minutes away. She moved closer to us, a builder purchased the house and promptly knocked it down. The last time I was there (it has been a while), it is overgrown with weeds and just an empty lot where my house stood. I think they intend on turning it into a park (which at least makes me happy), but still sad to see that the house was leveled.

Anyone who knows me will tell you im walking nostalgia, lol. Im always talking about the "good old days" (which REALLY sometimes kinda sucked). I totally loved my middle school and elementary school years and whenever I pass by it I always slow down or sometimes even stop in the parking lot where recess was held.
I use to spend alot of time at the mall. It was my one stop shopping place. It had a bookstore, musicstore, videostore, gamestore, and arcade. I use to spend almost all my money there (minus what i bought at toysrus) and now the mall is a shell of its former self. Now with the Sears and (i think) JC Penny closing its basically a useless place unless you go there just to walk around.
I also miss certain fast food places such as del taco, Bigboy burgers, and especally Showbiz Pizza.
Heck, even the town where I grew up with isnt like it use to be. Its grown to much over the years for my taste.

The house I lived in when I was little is now condemned. It is still used in October as a haunted house. Makes me want to cry when I drive by it once or twice a year.

Yep, Holiday Village Mall in Great Falls, MT. I hated living in Great Falls in the early 80's (I'm using the word hate here) but HVM provided the one place to escape. Aladdin's Castle arcade in particular. We lived close enough to ride our bikes to the mall...even if we didn't have any dough we'd still go and just look at the cool toys at the department stores. I remember going to the mall on Saturday's with the parents and my brother and I would go back to the TV section at Montgomery Ward's and watch Stampede Wrestling. Went back to visit some family in GF in 2008 and the mall has been completely remodeled and looks nothing like I remember it....I was bummed.

It used to bum me outto cruise the old cruising strip in Southwest Little Rock, nowadays however that same area has gotten so violent that I wish the state would just melt it with a nuke. I'd rather it not exist than be what it is now where random violence and crime are so common place the cops don't even bother. So I guess you could say it angers me more than saddens me. Mainly knowing tha my kids will never have that sort of safety and freedom that I did as a kid.

I am very lucky in that I live in the house my grandfather had built just before I was born. I was not very close with my parents as they divorced when I was little. I did not see much of my dad and my mom was too busy working and cleaning. I do however have GREAT memories of spending weekends at my grandparents house. My grandmother shaped much of who I am today. She turned me on to low budget monster flicks, Star Trek, 6MDM. Some of my fondest memories are sitting with her in what is now my living room and watching Creature Double Feature with a bag of chips and a huge Coke. She also bought me my first Mego figures and I played with them in this house. I often sit in the living room and vividly recall the two of us watching TV. Me with my Megos and her knitting. When she decided to sell the house over 20 years ago, I had to buy it. Too many memories to let it go out of the family. Now, I do drive by the lot in Lewes, Delaware every year where the old movie theater was. That was where I saw Jaws when it was released. That was torn down some time ago.
