    silver question (the precious metal)

Was going through some old junk and found something neat.

It's a silver coin that say's Happy Holidays ... It also say's 1 troy ounce .999 silver... It's kinda tarnished.

I called a gold-silver place to see what they would give ... 2 places said they offer $5.00 under current value of silver.

    Is that normal ?

I thought most places offer current value of silver

Sounds like those folks were being a ******... looking at ebay the price seems much better: 1 troy ounce silver | eBay

$5 seems kind of high to me. I get that they need to make a profit, but I'd expect it to be more in the 5% range...which would be about $2.

The place I deal with here in Jacksonville pays the current silver value. Buyers pay above the silver value when they make a purchase.

Did you happen to look the coin up and see if had any collectibility value? Depending on what you have; the coin might be worth more than its weight in silver. If it is than its value can be found on what's called a gray sheet which shows the price a dealer should pay for a coin and the price they should sell it. The spread is their profit. If it is just scrap silver; I could see offering a little below spot value since gold and silver move up and down day to day just like stocks but $5 sounds like a lot since it is currently trading in the low $30's.

I'm sure whatever it's value is it's for the silver content alone.

Here's a scan of the front and back

I looked up your item and a few articles mentioned that you should receive 90-95% of spot value for it. It also said Ebay was probably the best place to sell your item. I don't know if that helps or not.
