I really love Chinese American food buffets

I'm not talking about the few and far between ones with traditional Chinese food.

I'm talking about the Chinese/American ones with all kinds of sugary fried goodness like General Heartattack

Used to be for me a serving size of General Tso chicken was a Tupperware tub, the kind you slide under the bed. I just wish I had more confidence that I was actually eating chicken...
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.

My wife is second-generation Chinese American...she always tells me if there are more white people than Asian people in the restaurant it isn't any good. I grew up on Sweet & Sour Chicken, Chung King Chow Mein, etc. Not exactly what you'd find in Chinatown, more in a strip mall.

There seems to be tiers of these places here, I can get "bad chinese" on almost every corner. Many of them are also fish and chip restaurants because everything is done in the frier. You order General Tsao from those places and you get Chicken in bland red sauce.

If you choose the right place though, it'll take the roof of your mouth off, I have to drive really far if we order Chinese.

Being this is Canada and our high Chinese population, authentic Chinese is terribly easy to find as well, no trips to China town needed. Just look for the plaza that has the "hello kitty" gift shop.

We have a traditional Thai restaurant, but I dont think we have a traditional Chinese restaurant within 50 miles ... Although we have at least 10 Chinese/American buffet's per square mile

Funny thing is when you go in any of them and see the workers eating they are usually only eating white rice

We had one of those places close up on Lakeshore Ave. (where I work), just last year. I guess they weren't doing too well toward the end. But I miss stopping over and getting some Chinese take-out on the way home.

My wife's parents and their families emigrated from China to Vancouver, BC. Every time we go up there to visit her extended family all we eat is authentic Chinese food. Not neccesarily in Chinatown either. Once I met my wife I started eating Shark Fin, Squab (basically Pigeon), fish intestine, Chicken feet. Very different from Mongolian Beef and Kung Pao Chicken.

But the best is Won Ton - Hon's on Robson St. Oh man.

I used to live a stone's throw off Spadina on Grange St. aka heart of Chinatown (just down from OCA collage). good times and even better food. I still get mad crazings for coconut buns

I use to love Chinese food, but anymore it just has too much sodium in it for my digestion these days.

There's a cool place in Huntsville. They've got these terra cotta like statues that look like Princess Leia.

The best one I've been to is in Abington, PA beneath Target. They have all of the normal stuff, plus sushi, a grill & carving station. I usually warm up with a dozen or two steamed clams, then work my way around the proteins.
