New York Cosmos Fans: Giorgio Chinaglia Dies at 65...

Used to watch New York Cosmos Soccer on Wide World Of Sports every Saturday and remember watching all the greats. Pele, Beckenbauer, and Giorgio Chinaglia. Sad day for New York Cosmos fans. RIP.

And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
    The beauty that surrounds them

Awe man, that stinks. Saw Chinaglia play the NASL Sounders in the Kingdome when I was a kid and his Cosmos teams broke my heart twice in Soccer Bowl '77 and '82.

Sad day for any soccer fan - RIP.

I saw them play the Washington Diplomats back in the '70's. RIP.

The Italian Chinaglia was a great player for American soccer. Unlike a lot of players who come here at the tail end of their career, Chinaglia came here while he was still extremely good. He was a machine and was the all-time goal leader in the now-defunct NASL with 242 goals! (if you count the indoor years. Heck, even without, he scored 193 goals.)

I have one as well. The game sticks out in my memory because I really didn't attend many professional sporting events. But even more important; our soccer coach took us as a team and to our luck he happened to be the xth person to walk through the turn stiles, they upgraded our seats to booth seating, gave us free programs, pennants, let us go down and meet the players after the game....a really great memory.
