    Amatuer Artist Progression

I was inspired by the artist who was making that awesome Spiderman painting and letting us see his progress. I still feel absolutely awful for that guy, as his painting was stolen from his car.

Anyway, while I am not an artist at all, and nowhere near what he is, I have been making little sketches and thinking about painting them. I will post the progress in case anyone is interested. I also encourage others to do the same. It's pretty fun.

So here is what my sketch looks like. I will post more once my wife starts adding some color.

How neat that you can do a hobby together.
Those who look outside dream. Those who look within awake.

Great idea and it looks cool. I hope that piece that was stolen is found soon.
Its just a suggestion but I've been wondering if a fan art section at the museum would be a good idea. What do you guys think?

No, not a good idea, you're open to opinions and critiques of ones work that you may or may not want.

It may start off fine but a fan art section will die quickly, especially if the work is not exceptional or stands out......and sad to say sometimes envy and jealousy creeps in. Most pros I know encourage each other but at the same time we are brutally truthful. Not to knock the person but to get them to work harder at getting better......

I personally never ask for a critique from just anyone.

That's why my advice to artist especially young ones is NEVER go to friends or your parents or even other artist to evaluate your work. Go to Art Directors and have them evaluate your work they will tell you what you need to do to get work if that's what your seeking.......

Here is my progress so far (basically a forst coat of paint). My wife has too many other irons in the fire right now, so I just painted it myself. Simple stuff, but the first painting I have ever done, so I kinda like it.

How is that any different than the Mego Customs section though?
I Just adbide by the golden rule of "If you have nothing nice to say..."

Just read this quote for first time today

“Nobody tells this to people who are beginners, I wish someone told me. All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is this gap. For the first couple years you make stuff, it’s just not that good. It’s trying to be good, it has potential, but it’s not. But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. And your taste is why your work disappoints you. A lot of people never get past this phase, they quit. Most people I know who do interesting, creative work went through years of this. We know our work doesn’t have this special thing that we want it to have. We all go through this. And if you are just starting out or you are still in this phase, you gotta know its normal and the most important thing you can do is do a lot of work. Put yourself on a deadline so that every week you will finish one story. It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap, and your work will be as good as your ambitions. And I took longer to figure out how to do this than anyone I’ve ever met. It’s gonna take awhile. It’s normal to take awhile. You’ve just gotta fight your way through.”

I like it! I have been drawing for years (just for personal pleasure) but picking up a brush and colors is very intimidating. Thanks for sharing.

kingdom Warrior does make a good point though. Really both side have a good argument. For some art can be a very personal thing and to recieve criticism can be enough to cause them not to pick up a pen or brush again. "Destructive criticism" (yes, i came up with that word!) Is something that I dont want to promote.

It becomes much more enjoyable and pleasureable when its for yourself first and it doesnt matter what others say.

For the record, it was never my intention to get an artistic critique. I do not have any illusion that I am an artist. I just thought this would be fun so I gave a it a try.

I like the piece so far, Kotter! It has a color and liveliness you don't often see used for The Batman. Good job so far, brutha!

Cool, thanks. He ended up a lot darker than I meant, but that may change a bit in revisions.

Here is the most recent update. Just some change to the eyes and mask mostly.

OK...I think this is the final revision. Looks like it was painted by a 6-year-old, but what the heck. It was fun trying
