    Kitchen Nightmares

I used to like Kitchen Nightmares but lately it's like - you've seen one, you've seen them all.

Seems like the formula for each show is clearly reused for each week.

    1. Ramsey walks in and greets everyone

    2. He tastes the food and hates it ... owners get mad at him

    3. He watches them perform (they perform poorly)

    4. We find out owner has emotional problem (Ramsey helps them resolve this)

    5. New menu is introduced ... and Ramsey repaints the place

    6. A tough first day but Ramsey is there to help them through it

    7. All is perfect - Ramsey hungs them and leaves

No longer do we see Ramsey showing them how to cook - which is the bread and butter of what the show should be !!!

Restaurant Impossible over on Food Network is a Robert Irvine version of this, and I actually prefer it. The formula is about the same, but Irvine is nicer than Ramsay, and the people/restaurant he helps seem more authentic. What's even cooler is that you can head over to his website & see recipes from the show.

...and I should probably mention that not all of the endings are happy. The most recent one I watched featured a diner south of Lancaster, PA. I hit the website to find an update & read that the place closed for good 2 weeks ago.

Yeah, I grew bored with Kitchen Nightmares about midway through last season.

I did watch KN pretty much regularly until it got all "touchy feely" with Ramsay being more of a counselor than a chef. These days, I barely watch it. I am hoping for a return of Hell's Kitchen, though. Ramsay is always appropriately cranky on that show!
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

I use to get a kick out of that show - especially re-runs of the British show. The new season is unbearable.

As a guilty pleasure I used to watch a bit of Hell's Kitchen, but that's terrible now too. Neither show seems to discuss cooking at all now - it's all formulaic personality drama, like every other reality show.

In the last episode I bothered watching there was a scene like this, so I decided that was it:

Waitress: "Oh no! Not enough steak - and everyone ordered steak! What will we do?!!"

Owner: "Oh no - don't tell me that we don't have enough steak - oh no!"

Ramsey: "You don't have enough steak?!!! We NEED Steak! They ordered steak!!! Oh my god..."

              Head Chef looks miserable.

              - COMMERCIAL BREAK -

Announcer: On the first big reopening of the restaurant everything was going well, until they realized that they had sold too many steaks.

Replay scenes we just saw before the commercial that also repeat what the announcer just said:

Waitress: "Oh no! Not enough steak - and everyone ordered steak! What will we do?!!"

Owner: "Oh no - don't tell me that we don't have enough steak - oh no!"

Ramsey: "You don't have enough steak?!!! We NEED Steak! They ordered steak!!! Oh my god..."

              Head Chef looks miserable.

Head Chef: "Oh look, I found some more steak"

/\ /\ This is an epic win.

I was going to agree with Duncan about preferring the Robbie E. version, but Brazoo's posts had to be recognized for the geniusosity that they contain.

I quite like Kitchen Nightmares,i know it's the same premise every week but i just like to see how Ramsey changes the over complicated menus to a more simple selection and the makeover he gives the restaurant.

Hells Kitchen is an all different kettle of fish,as the cooks can be seen by the diners and can hear all the shouting and see the madness what goes on in the kitchen.

Oh, I thought you were actually talking about kitchen nightmares, like when I forgot and left the kettle popcorn popper on the stove, with 1/2" of oil in it on high, and it caught fire and the flames were like 2 feet high.

Took awhile for that smoke to clear out, I tell you what.
