USPS is a quasi government agency and they certainly are funded by the federal government to help with budget shortfalls (similar to Washington D.C. metro rail system).

I do think the USPS has a business model that can and should be profitable but it needs to make some major changes to make itself more competitive. A lot of people don't know it, but it is considered illegal to send a parcel by any other means than the USPS with certain exceptions. I guarantee a company that operates outside of USPS and outside of the FedEx/UPS business model would form if allowed, it would be profitable, and eventually force USPS out of business.

Well my package made it out of the California Triangle and arrived safe and sound today. Coast to coast and 3/4 of the way back in a little over a week is not too bad.

Ebay seller shipped my package from Colorado on Friday and the tracking said ETA April
3rd to Seattle. I was pleasantly surprised to see it was out for delivery today. Wait, this thread isn't about my successes with USPS.
