As I mentioned in another thread, the station I'm at is thinking of switching from ION to ME-TV to serve as our non local content network. What say you to those who have watched it? I've seen their program line up and like most of their shows, but what say you? Also do youknow of any other similar type stations excluding Antennae TV and This TV?

is this question more of a survey to bone up on the tone of this station?
Surely a career move like this is mainly based on your paycheck and the statistics of the viewers the channel brings in/how the channel is faring
on the market overall.
Again, i was just curious...what you were up to.... maybe its because
I'm majoring Broadcast Journalism at CSU:LA right now."No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris MannixComment

I've enjoyed METV so far, only had it on my system a few monthes. I think the Saturday line up itself ( starting at 7 pm: 1 hr of Batman, Lost In Space, Star Trek, old horror movie hosted by Svengoolie, Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea and an hour of Get Smart) is a fun deal. Even though I have these on DVD and I don't partake of all of it all the time (except I make it a point to watch Svengoolie and Batman) I am glad it is offered.Comment

I'm not a TV guy so I can't give an opinion.... but out of curiosity

Actually this time around it has more to do with a looming technical issue and a cheap owner. What's happening is that ION is looking to dump its independent affiliates (there are only around 12 in the country). For the most part ION owns their own stations and also is up on most satellite systems and cable systems.
With ME-TV they still use embedded codes in their stream to fire off the automation system on our end. This particular method is pretty antiquated and most content providers have completely moved away from it. The owner here (I lovingly refer to as Cog #1) is really cheap and doesn't want to invest in any new equipment at the moment. We still haven't even made the digital jump. Being that we're low power we aren't required to do so until 2013. I'm not psychic but I can see this really biting Cog #1 in the posterior. BUt i digress.

On a programming note I for one am really excited about the possibility of acquiring the programming. Everything that I see in their line up looks to be perfect for recreating some old school TV promotional magic. The possibilities for doing program tie ins is really making me numb. Think about it; how cool would it be for a local television station to do a watch party on Saturday nights of Svengoolie? Or even better do an on air give away of NEW Twilight Zone or Star Trek Mego style action figures (also a great platform to sell them through too btw). The possibilities are endless.
Cog #1 really doesn't care all that much so long as there is something on the air. Case and point, prior to this what seems to be mandatory change up he trash talked all of the 'retro style' stations. He's definitely a salesman and not an entertainer.Comment
