Andy Pettitte Comes Out Of Retirement

After taking last year off, 39 year old Andy Pettitte resigned with the Yankees today. Pettitte, who for reasons that I've never understood, is a fan favorite despite leaving the Yankees to pitch for the Astros for a few years (really, Andy?) and then tested positive for 'Roids when he rejoined the team, has now pulled a Farve. As a die-hard Yankee fan I've never had a warm spot in my heart for him and now I like him all the less.

He won't make it out of Spring Training. The only way he even makes the AAA squad is as middle relief.

From what I read this move was made partly because Pineda has totally underwhelmed in Spring Training. Cashman was quoted today saying that he's 20 lbs. overweight and it was "like he took the winter off and didnt do any training just like Hughes did last year." He went on to say that he hopes the signing lets everyone know that no ones place in the rotation is secure, except CC's. Cashman is usually very reserved and doesn't make those kind of comments so I was surprised to hear him say that.

As far as the Red Sox go, with the exception of hiring Bobby V., I can't understand the reasoning behind any of the moves they made during the off season.

I don't get the move, don't see where he fits in the rotation, if he made the team. which i right now highly doubt.....

Yeah i wasn't overwhelmed by their moves this winter. Before they hired Bobby V though i told my wife he was the coach that could straighten out the misfits in the clubhouse. I will never forget Francona as he will always have a special place in Redsox history, but his time was over.
