The new iPad screen is AWESOME!

I have been patiently (NOT) waiting for the Fed-Ex guy all day and it finally arrived. It's everything I hoped for. The new screen is SOOOO much crisper and cleaner. Especially text, and I use mine for reading books mostly. Thank you Apple!!

I get all my wife's hand me downs, so I'll probably have her iPad by the end of the year.

This is how it goes at my house. I've received her old iBook and iPhone etc. We were going to get matching iPads last year with her bonus money, but it went toward car repairs instead. Kinda glad we waited.

Tablets are great devices that do a lot of things very well. Reading books is not one of them. If you want to read digital books, you'd be much better off getting an actual ereader like a Kindle or a Nook. The screens and "digital ink" they use are more like reading from actual ink and paper books than reading text from a monitor, like a tablet. You also won't get the glare or eye strain like you would reading from a tablet.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Not true. On the iPad you can change reading settings every which way to Sunday. The only it can't do is he matte look. But you can change everything else.

I'm still on the fence as to whether or not I want to get an iPad 3 or wait another couple of years for a iPad 4 which would (hopefully) have at least one USB port. Still, I've looked at the new iPad at the Apple store and it's screen clarity is so crisp, it's a thing of beauty! Way t'go, Apple, and congrats to all those fine folks who are snapping them up!
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

I am aware you can change the settings on tablets. You are still reading off of a back lit LCD screen. Which is not ideal for reading books or nearly as good as an actual ereader.

Actually, I'm old school and still prefer reading off of the printed page, so I guess I'm a dinosaur.....

I have a 2nd generation Kindle and I can tell you that, for me, reading from an iPad is MUCH easier on my eyes. Especially with the new screen. The letters are SUPER crisp. The ereaders are good for one thing - reading outside in bright light. There, they trump tablets. Anywhere else they are hard for me to read becuase they require a lot of ambient light. I guess it comes down to personal preference and eyesight.
