Like Mike said (Type1Kirk), I also sold off a great portion of my Mego collection. Since I'm on disability right now, I just don't have the income I once had...and at the time I was restoring a classic car of mine...so I needed cashola to help finance my car restoration.

But I hear ya, it's hard to sell them, as I was selling...I suddenly got depressed and sad letting them go...but as time passed on...I finally realized it was ok, no big deal. There's always the saying, "You can always buy them back one day".

IMO, if I were you, and since space seems to be a priority, sell the cheapest and most modern ones, also sell the really big boxed ones...just keep your high end stuff...I would prefer having a small but quality and pricey collection, than a huge gathering of cheap plastic.

Well, looking at the pic you posted one of the mistakes you are making is thinking of them as collectables. They are TOYS. The modern stuff anyway, not yet collectables. Thinking that way might help. You can't worry about what happens to them after they are out of your possession.

If it all feels like so much junk, it's time to unload and break the habit of buying just to buy. Try to find a focus, and stick with that, but whatever you don't take enjoyment out of owning and displaying I would seriously consider letting go of.

I don't think of the toys in that pic as collectables. I think of them as toys that I collect. There is a difference there. Especially since my main focus is Star Wars. Most of those SW items will be opened for my own amusement.

I have cut back on Star Wars considerably, I no longer feel the need to buy two of everything that comes out. I'm not entirely there yet, but working on it. I do struggle with the idea of opening some of them, mainly because they look so cool displayed in the some of the boxes, especially the Endor and Hoth sets.

I'm hearing you guys and what you are telling me is much appreciated. You're all being very logical in your words and thoughts. However, you are speaking to an illogical mind. OCD can be crippling. It effects people in different ways. I have one friend with OCD who is the type that washes his hands 30 times a day. Luckily I don't have the germ phobia type. But I do have the completist/perfectionist type. If I'm missing something from what I collect it will be all I can think about until I have found the missing piece. I know this probably sounds silly to a lot of people and I know it is in fact silly, which is part of reason I started this thread to begin with. There aren't any support groups that I know of to help me with this sort of thing and nobody has said anything that I haven't already thought of myself.

I'd be having this debate whether you guys were here or not. I'm not sure what I hoped to accomplish by starting this thread, but it's nice to hear these thoughts coming from other people instead of debating the issues with myself like I do. It's very therapeutic and it makes me feel a little less crazy.
