That could be why he died.

Just one question (and this is NOT meant as a slam by any means): how on Earth could you guys have NOT heard of Moebius? I mean, the guy was a freakin' legend, not just in comics, but in the field of art in general...!
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

Not a slam at all and a good question. I don't follow any current comics nor have I ever known the names of many, if any of the artists. That's why I have never heard of him either. I only know the main characters from when I grew up in the 1970's.

I'm not a comic fan but was aware of who he was. I'm sure everyone has seen something he had a hand in creating or drawing. Here's an excerpt that shows some of what he worked on.

He worked on top French magazines including the politically incorrect but visually arresting "Metal Hurlant" (Heavy Metal), a mixture of science fiction and epic fantasy, which was featured in a 1981 animated film of the same name.

He collaborated with Japanese manga artists and even co-produced a adventure of US comic-book superhero The Silver Surfer, working with Stan Lee, himself a legend in the field.

And his influence spread into cinema, putting his stamp on the first "Alien" film and the science fiction adventure "Tron".
It's not a doll it's an action figure.

I have to confess that I didn't read the first post correctly as I totally missed the link above the large picture. I thought it was a comic book figure that was killed off not an actual artist that had passed away.

Sorry about that. Makes my first response look pretty crass. I loved the movie Heavy Metal and even have it on DVD so if he had a hand in that then yes, I have seen his work and enjoyed it. Just never knew his name.

Another great visionary has departed. Sad news indeed.

I actually quite surprised there are so many who were unfamiliar with this legendary artist.
