Are US President coins worth anything ?

I just found a weird coin in my change.

It's about the size of a quarter and it has John Quincy Adams on one side and the Statue of Liberty on the other.

    It says $1

Are these worth anything more than a buck (collectible wise) ?

I never seen or heard of them before

They were supposed to be similar to the state quarters and help us become more comfortable with dollar coins rather than dollar bills. However, I think I read a few months ago that the U.S. Mint was discontinuing the presidential dollars because no one is using them.

I think they're too close in a size to a quarter.

People will mix them up imo

I would rather wad my few dollars up in my pocket than have them clang around.

          Historical money fact:

Andrew Jackson, while acting as Secretary of the Treasury, voted several times to maintain the coin standard of money and was completely against paper. Fate put him on the twenty.

          Irony is often quite amusing.

I recall reading somewhere a while back that they actually cost more to make than their face value. And like others have mentioned no one wants them. Especially at strip clubs

I notice they turn green pretty fast. I've got a couple sitting on one of my shelves and they're that color.

Every Dollar Coin is made the same size as a quarter going back to the Susan B. Anthony coin-in my lifetime. I don't think anyone has been smart enough to promote a different size yet. Tho it could have something to do with keeping that size so it can be accepted by vending machines and transit fare machines accross the country.

I have to come across any of these yet and I doubt that I will.

I have seen quite a few of them. There actually are presidential dollar coins that are collectible and worth more than $1. Most of them are error coins that were accidentally circulated. I can't remember most of the more common ones but I think it was George Washington and John Adams had some coins with the missing engraving on the edging. There were a couple of presidential dollar coins in low mintages that are worth some money but they would have to be uncirculated directly from the mint to be worth anything.

BTW, the mint attempted to circulate them by allowing individuals to buy them in bulk with free shipping. A few smart people, took advantage of this by purchasing thousands of dollars worth on their credit card (racking up reward points) and depositing the coins right into their bank account pay their credit card statement and repeat over and over again. The mint caught on and shut the program down.
