Anybody ever own a snowmobile ?

Seems like snowmobiles were way more popular 30 years ago than they are today.. Perhaps because we generally seem to get less snow nowadays.

Back in the 70's my brother used to have one.

He used to get p'ed off all the time because he kept breaking the ski's from riding it too rough

I havent been on one in 30 years

    Anybody here have one ?

Out here, with the exception of few new "city slickers" on small lots, everyone has one. My nieces and nephews all got a used sled of their own when they were about seven.

We are down to just two because the winters have been milder. But don't think you cannot use a sled if you are lacking snow. Try flooding your backyard and skiing it across your new pond! If you have sled withdrawals in the summer, our neighbors will help you with their annual bog run. Outfit your sled with used Craig's list tracks and see how far you can run it into a mud pit. Michigan redneck fun at it's finest!

Yes, many, many snowmobiles in Wisconsin as well. It is a huge weekend event for people in the winter...though this year has been rough because we have such a lack of snow.

Never owned but have riden - my cousins on a trip to Michigan one Christmas. I was probably 14 or so. My aunt took my Dad, my brother and I out one night. It was the best time. Riding out in the woods on snow covered dirt roads wide open. Then we stopped at a tavern for hot chocolate. The best.

Had one back in '78 but it never ran. My dad traded my mini-bike for it.

If you own one around here you have to be prepared to travel North to use it more then once or twice a year. Now where my in-laws live in PA you almost have to own one. They are near the top of a mountain in a rural area and can get 2 feet of snow like it's nothing. Often times a sled is the only way you may be able to get into town since their road doesn't get plowed very quickly. So Dad has an old (early 70s) John Deere just in case.

                Hmmmm....

We went up north a few years back with the Regiment to qualify on them. The ones they had were engines with a seat on 'em, and they went from 0 to Warp 9 at the touch of a button. I'm not a fan of speed.... but they DID find an old transport one for me. It was like driving a sofa.
