    I just got bifocals

    HA

some while back, I realized I could not focus on what I was painting unless it was at arms length. And then at that distance, I couldn't do any sort of fine detail.

So I finally got a pair of glasses to help. I've been using a magnifying lamp, but you are sort of limited in movement and comfort with one of those.

So, tonight I am painting some pupils on a puppet and thinking "Wow!! this is great, I can see again. I make some beautiful black circles and then, while I am admiring my handywork, I spill my paint cap 'cos it is in the 'fuzz zone' of the bifocal. You just can't win.

I have progressive lenses, and got to warn you: walking down stairs can be tricky. Also, I guess I watch TV with my head at an angle, because I look through the bottoms and can't focus properly. Next time, I'm just telling the eye doc I want standard glasses.

I do not have them although I have heard that the bi focals of the past are some what problematic. Hopefully the newer bifocals have the bugs worked out and are much better. I think from what I have heard that they even offer bi focals now without the line in them.

This reminds me that I need to get my eyes checked in the near future. It has been a while since I have had mine checked. I use a magnifier lamp to paint my customs. The eyes are the hardest part for me to do on a custom. Such tiny detail. Maybe it is time for an eye check up.

I'm fighting bi-focals. I just remove my glasses to see better if I need to work up close.

progressive lenses are the ones that are ground without a line.

The glasses aren't all that bad. There is just a line where you have to remember not to look down if you are focusing far away or up if you are focusing nearfield. Being able to see what is in my hands is pretty cool. But, I think I'll opt for two different sets of glasses next time around. The heck with Ben Franklin.

I do the same thing if i'm having to pay close attention to detail on something.

Yeah, I'm going to have to make this decision soon, too. Maybe multiple pairs glasses; I dunno.

In this past year, I've noticed that it definitely time for bifocals for me. Getting old sucks....

I was repairing a Herry Monster puppet that is now in the post to it's new owner.
At some point in it's life, this Herry had his pupils redrawn rather choppily with a sharpie and he looked even more crazy than he should. I was merely making nice beautiful circles back in the place they should be. Nothing really remarkable. Just nice and round. I, unfortunately, did not take any pics of this operation. Tho, now that you mention it, I probably should have just in case the new owner has any issues.

Some day I'll have to get some pics up of my other live hand puppets.

Somewhere buried in the archives of the museum are some pics of some of my Sesame Muppets.

They're alive? I definitely want to see pictures of those!! And, does it hurt them when you insert your hand?
