    Daytona 500

I actually have 2 things that are burning in my head. I will keep them separate though. I am a casual Nascar fan. Even though i'm in North Carolin the nascar capital, I just can't watch a whole race. I'll watch in tiny chunks.
Ok here is my problem. We don't see the Superbowl in September, or the Stanley Cup in October, nor the NBA championship in October or the World Series in April. So why the hell is it's biggest race of the year the first dang race of the year? Most teams are just getting started on the year, your not even close to being in a good flow, so why not have the biggest race at least after the half way point. It drives "no pun intended" me nuts hearing them all talk about it but it seems to me like it should be a spring training type of race. Why has Nascar never changed this.

I don't get why driving is a sport.

Many people don't get it. Racing (this is coming from a drag racer) requires a certain amount of skills much like other sports. It's not as much of an pure athletic sport as it is a sport of skill and smarts. It really depends on what you define as a sport. If it is based mostly on athletic ability then to some extent racing is not a sport. But the same can be said for other sports too. Personally it never bothered me if some people consider it a sport or not. But I have seen some pretty heated arguments over this same question.

Right now it appears that there is a rain delay and hard telling when it will start. I am at work but will head home to see at least part of the race. I am a Danica fan so I hope she does well. She grew up ten minutes away from me and I followed much of her career from when she was just a young girl racing carts.

While NASCAR rules the motor sports TV ratings here in the States...around the globe...Formula 1 is the undisputed king.

NASCAR is like the NFL...and Formula 1 is World Cup soccer...lol.

I'd say it's a sport because it requires physical endurance...race drivers sweat by the buckets...and their legs and arms have to endure the grueling conditions driving at such high speeds for long periods of time...and they have to be mentally aware and tough...I mean...the concentration is unbelievable...one wrong move...and you'll be hitting the wall...or worse.

If golf and bowling are called sports...then racing cars is a sport.

..I only care what they rank in the USA you have to pay me to sit thru a whole soccer game

Formula 1 is fun though...I live like 5 minutes away from the Homestead speedway....there's a lot of Nascar fans around here

They are so dehydrated at this point...that I don't think that would be a problem.

Plus, I think sneezing would be more problematic...

Well it looks like the Daytona 500 will be run on a Monday for the first time ever due to the rain.
