First in a theater was "An Officer and a Gentleman". I was 13 at the time. My best friend's sister was dating an usher at a theater, I think his parents were out of town, she was watching him and asked if I wanted to tag along. I had no clue what the movie was about but figured "what the heck"....I got in free along with free popcorn and drinks, I love movies in general, and my friend didn't want to be left watching the movie alone.

"The Jerk" and was disapointed that the only one to get kind of naked was Steve Martin.

JAWS got a PG rating but had to have an additional advisory of "May be too intense for younger children". So, in effect JAWS was a PG-13 before there ever was a PG-13.

I think the first one I ever saw in a theater was Nightmare on Elm Street 3 when I was 15. Went with a couple of chicks, hoping that good things might happen when they got scared. Sadly, I didn't even get one of them to bury her head in my shoulder.

I'd seen a ton of R-rated movies on VHS before that (Blues Brothers when I was 11 or so, Conan, Excaliber, Trading Places, and a bunch of others around the same time). Most of my friends were all really young-looking when we were early teens, so it seemed like we were always getting busted sneaking into R-rated moves and there's no way my parents would have taken me to see one.

The first R-rated movie in a theater was "Trading Places," places, but my parents got HBO in 1979 or 80, where I think Animal House was my first R-rated film but it might have been Halloween. It was one or the other to my recollection.

But my favorite R movie as a kid was Hollywood Knights. I can't find my puffer

Heck, thats a hard one. I remember a big stink being made about Indy 2: TOD before the rating of PG-13 started, so that was around '84. It may have been Children of the Corn then. What year was that released?

OK, then. I'm sticking with my original answer - Omen III

                          Same here - Definitely Conan.

It was the second movie I ever saw in a theater. Even now, I probably watch it at least once a month or so on average.

If Jaws don't count maybe The Longest Yard (not sure if that was R)

I saw King Kong (1976), when it came out for a friend's birthday. It was rated R back then, but is now rated PG (like Jaws I guess). I didn't even realize at the time it was rated R because we were all 7 years old!

First I knowingly saw was Caddyshack. It was between that and the Blues Brothers, which I would have preferred, but mom took us to Caddyshack. At that age it was a little embarrassing to see boobies while sitting with my sister and mom!

I think it might have been Andy Warhol's Frankenstein in 1974. It was quite an eye opener for an 8 year old.
