I approached Ferrigno at the San Diego Con to take a photo. I wanted to get the shot of him with a Hulk standup he had at his booth in the background. He let me take his picture but would not take a step over to allow me to get the standup in the photo. He did smile, but he wouldn't flex.
He was brusk, but he was selling photos of himself and autographs so I guess he was just trying to protect his product
I'm sure his deafness has shaped his personality and I'm sure people have or at least attempted to take advantage of him, particularly when he was young. I don't know if any you have seen Pumping Iron, but Arnold kind of gave him hell in the documentary.
No doubt, he could have been nicer, but I can see how the "stars" that go to the cons feel a bit like zoo animals and can be a bit contemptuous of fat guys with cameras.
But for this many people on such a small forum to come away with such a crappy impression of the guy, he might ought to look into a PR firm.Comment

The strangest part of the whole experience is the lack of people giving him any attention. Yeah, the fitness babes were roaming around and there were all kinds of demos going, but this is Lou Ferrigno! If there was a line of people waiting I could understand more. His entire demeanor was comtemptuous.
Now a little bit later I got to meet my body buidling hero at the time, Mike Christian. He was engaging and talkative and genuinely humbled at the attention my friend and I poured onto him. He wrote his address on the inside back flap of his book and told me to write him anytime. That's a class act.
I did catch a glimpse of Arnold that day, but he was with his entourage, so maybe fifteen feet away I saw his head. He signed the hood of a Humvee they were auctioning off and left.I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.
If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.Comment

I met Lou when the animated hulk show that he did the voice for was on. He was great really pleasant. Talked to me for like 8 min. The only lame part is when I asked him to sign my 12 mego MIB Hulk and make it out to my son his manager lady stepped in and said he was only allowed to sign his name, no personal names. He look somewhat bothered and proceeded to only sign his name.
Now Dee Snyder I met a few times once for an extended time at a toy show I was selling at while he was promoting Strangeland and again at Great Adventure when he was hosting the Van Helsing Firework show. He was a really great and genuine guy. Suprisingly when I saw him at Great Adventure he reconized me and came up to me. I thought that was pretty cool.

OK...enough Ferrigno (he's not going to last anyway)...lol.
Back to Celebrity Apprentice...
Doesn't look like a fair fight on paper...the men are overall more famous, have a higher profile, and would seem like they would have more connections.
I think Penn Jillette (strong personality), Adam Corolla (very smart and funny as heck), and Paul Teutul (proven businessman) are the alpha dogs here...the rest are up for grabs.
However...we didn't get to see Michael Andretti in action...he has a lot of high rollers from the world of racing.
Clay Aiken might be a dark horse. I don't think Takei is gonna last long though.
On the women's side...Patricia Velasquez looks tough (she easily survived elimination despite being the project manager of the losing team)...she looks like the strongest of the women.Last edited by Hector; Feb 22, '12, 7:43 AM.sigpicComment

I would agree the lineup of men seems more impressive than the women, but watching the ladies take each other out to be entertaining. Velasquez did seem to be the most serious-minded of the women and seemed to be well liked by her opponents despite leading a losing effort.
I too was impressed with Jillette. If I had to put money on a winner from one episode, it would be on him. Corolla is a smart guy, but does he have the killer instinct? Jillette seems like the kind of guy who could steal your wallet, house and wife and make you feel like it was to your advantage.
As far as Paul, while he did a lot of talking, he honestly seemed in over his head with his team really picking up the slack for him, and I'm guessing he wrote that check for $305 grand after he jumped out on the limb and said the team would raise $500 grand. Without that check, the women would have won even though the men got the $35,000 for the best sandwich. Not all businesses are built or run the same. No doubt, he's got a talent for working with cycles, but that's a high-dollar niche business. The apprentice is a PR and branding game as much as anything else. But then again, maybe I'll be surprised.
I think you're right about Aiken being a dark horse. Some of the other contestants might underestimate him and from his comments he seemed to have a very good feel for what was going on and working. The question about him is can he get the macho guys to work for him when he's the project leader.Comment

I was surprised to see him at the Arnold Classic Expo in Columbus, maybe it was 1995. I was walking the floor and stumbled upon him. Keep in mind there was nobody at his table at the time. Here's the exchange.
"I can't believe you're here. Would it be okay if Igot a picture with you?"
"If you buy one of my books."
"Um okay, sure." I handed him 40 dollars.
"Could you please sign it?"
"That's another ten dollars." Gave him another ten spot.
I had my friend dig his camera out for the picture and started walking around the table.
"No. You stay on that side."
So I got the picture, a book I didn't want and. my heart crushed to dust.
i've met so much other celebrities who are much more pleasant than he is and actually seem to be happy when meeting the fans.Comment
