iTunes gives a much longer sample of all the tracks on the album.

I really like and respect Paul McCartney, but I do wonder if his good song-writing days are truly over. I just came so close to buying this album, but on listening to about six sample tracks I realised I already have a whole iTunes playlist of these standards sung by far better singers (Sinatra, Nat King Cole, even Diana Krall who contributes to Paul's album).

If this were an album of similar new songs written by McCartney I'd be all over it, but this is (for me) a bit like Rod Stewart's Records For Retired Boomers albums.

Am I the only one who sees the irony in these guys (McCartney and Stewart) now in their 'golden years' reverting their musical styling back to the standards that they pretty much removed from the pop charts in their heyday's? What's next, Metallica releasing an album of Lawrence Welk standards? Oh wait they sorta did that already

I am a HUGE McCartney fan, just look at my avatar (It's Jack Kirby's piece of Paul McCartney and Wings in Magneto's grasp) and I usually pick his CD's up the day they come out. With this one I waited a week because I heard a few tracks off of it and wasn't impressed at all. I picked it up Tuesday because it was on sale at Target, and the Target version had 2 bonus tracks. It's a horrible CD. It really does show McCartney has lost his voice. One of the Bonus tracks on the CD is a cover of his Wings track called "Baby's Request" from the LP Back To The Egg...and he couldn't even do that justice. I know he's gonna be 70 this year...but I do think it's time to start releasing stuff from the vaults. I'd really like to hear some of the "unreleased" stuff from the past then hear a new McCartney CD. I hate to say it but he has lost his voice.

Their eyes can't hope to see
        The beauty that surrounds them
        Isn't it a pity".

The last McCartney single I bought was My Brave Face fom `89,(?). It was a nice little tune, produced by Elvis Costello I think, but McCartney is his own worst enemy. All he wants to make is light music and be as cheerful as a Telletubby.

eh It's Paul, I can't be super critical of a 70 year old man, who's at the twilight of his recording career. he can pretty much do whatever he pleases now.....I pick and choose what I like on Itunes, so whatever songs I like from the new cd I buy.....

It's all so "chill" that i think it's hard to judge his voice... if only
David Lee Roth did songs all this laid back... you'd hardly notice he fried
                  voice, I think.

As some have said, it works as a consistently easy listening album... and I'm
                  happily satisfied with that.

well said Hue....i find it relaxing to listen too. not my favorite PM album by any stretch but I am happy to get new music from the guy. at his age and level of wealth he certainly does not need to continue recording or touring for that matter

Yes... he did what he set out to do... and frankly, everybody (including him),
is lucky he's lived this long to do so much.

I think that even tyho' post-FREE AS A BIRD stuff has been good, that
really, all the living Beatles could've retired after the ANTHOLOGY era
and been quite full with their careers.

I listen to the track samples and found them actually pretty good. Yeah, his vocals are not what they use to be. But who's can be at 70? That being said, he definitely retains enough quality in vocals to pull off these songs. I'm glad he did them. Very relaxing to listen to.

I'm actually looking forward to getting this. I'll have to look at Target for the bonus tracks.
                          It's all good!
